Organized in 1941, Brazos Electric was the first cooperative formed in the Lone Star state for the purpose of generating and supplying electrical power. Today, Brazos Electric provides wholesale power delivery services for its 16 member-owner distribution cooperatives. Owned by its member cooperatives, the Brazos Electric board of directors is comprised of one representative from each of these 16 members.

Position Overview
As an Accountant – Property & Treasury, you will play a vital role in accurately preparing, recording, maintaining, and reporting the financial transactions of the cooperative. You will ensure compliance with Rural Utilities Service (RUS) standards and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) while supporting key accounting functions related to job closing, loan funds, utility plant assets, and treasury activities.
Key Responsibilities
Job Closing Functions
- Perform closing procedures for all Right-of-Way (ROW) & Subsite assets
- Assist in work order creation and compilation
- Review and audit job and contract charges
- Assign asset costs and complete capitalization of job/contract charges
- Maintain scanned job and contract files
- Support the Transmission Division with job-related inquiries
- Perform additional duties related to job closing as needed
Loan Fund Management
- Maintain records for loan applications, loan fund advances, and loan accounting history
- Prepare schedules and loan fund analysis for loan applications
- Process requisitions for loan fund advances
- Track loan fund budgets and expenditures against the construction budget
- Work with RUS auditors on loan fund system reviews
- Prepare Indenture Certificates for bondable additions and asset disposals
Utility Plant Asset Accounting
- Perform closing procedures for general plant assets
- Maintain and report on company asset conditions
Other Accounting Functions
- Prepare monthly journal entries, including Interest During Construction and overhead calculations
- Generate cost analysis reports, various financial schedules, and annual audit schedules
- Study RUS Bulletins and the Uniform System of Accounts to ensure compliance
- Assist in developing and documenting departmental procedures and process improvements
- Approve daily wire activities

- Accountant I: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting 1 year of relevant experience
- Accountant II: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting 3 years of experience as Accountant I or equivalent
- Accountant III: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting 3 years of experience as Accountant II or equivalent
