At Bowery Residents' Committee (BRC), our staff help New Yorkers experiencing homelessness reclaim their lives by providing a hand up, offering opportunities for health and self-sufficiency, and restoring hope and dignity. BRC provides a comprehensive range of services, including shelter, housing, addiction treatment, mental health support, and workforce development.

Position Summary :

The Internal Communications Lead be responsible for developing and executing internal communication strategies that engage and inform employees across the organization. You will work closely with senior leaders to ensure that all internal communications align with the company's mission, vision, and values. Your main goal will be to create a cohesive and collaborative work environment that fosters employee engagement and productivity. You will also be responsible for managing the company's intranet content and ensuring that it is up-to-date and relevant. The ideal candidate is a strategic communicator with a passion for mission-driven work and a deep commitment to BRC’s core values.

Key Responsibilities :

Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and execute an internal communications strategy aligned with BRC’s goals and organizational culture.
  • Collaborate with the CHRO and Executive Management team to support key organizational initiatives, including employee engagement, DEI efforts, and workforce development programs.
  • Evaluate and enhance communication tools, platforms, and practices to improve effectiveness.
  • Partner with Marketing and Communications to elevate BRC's employer brand through strategic management of external platforms (LinkedIn, Glassdoor, Indeed), while developing compelling employee value propositions that attract and retain top talent.

Content Creation & Management

  • Write, edit, and distribute internal newsletters, announcements, and executive communications.
  • Create and manage an internal content calendar to ensure timely, relevant, and consistent messaging.
  • Manage the agency’s intranet, ensuring that content is engaging, accessible, and up-to-date.
  • Collaborate with the CHRO and leadership to manage internal communications during crises or organizational changes, delivering accurate, timely, and compassionate messaging.
  • Develop and implement change management communication plans to support organizational transitions.
  • Create, shoot and edit short informational videos.
  • Employee Engagement

  • Partner with HR to support employee recognition programs, professional development opportunities, and organizational events.
  • Create forums for staff feedback and two-way communication, such as surveys, town halls, and focus groups.
  • Build a sense of community and connection among employees across BRC’s diverse locations and programs.
  • Measurement & Improvement

  • Track and evaluate the effectiveness of internal communication initiatives through surveys, engagement metrics, and feedback.
  • Use insights to continuously improve strategies and recommend innovative approaches to communication challenges.
  • Qualifications :

    Education : Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.

    Experience :

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in communications, employee engagement, or a related field.
  • Experience in non-profit or mission-driven organizations is strongly preferred.
  • Skills :

  • Outstanding writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Proficiency with internal communication tools and platforms (e.g., intranets, email systems, collaboration tools like Slack or Microsoft Teams).
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of individuals experiencing homelessness or from marginalized communities.

  • Hours :

    Full-time 37.5 hours per week

  • Monday-Friday 9am-5 : 30pm
  • Hybrid - 3 days in the office
