Position Overview:
Bread Alone operates 3 cafes in the Hudson Valley where we offer our guests delicious bread and pastry, a curated line of beverages including coffee program through Irving Farm, and a full menu featuring high quality products from local producers prepared in our on-site kitchen. The Cafe Kitchen Supervisor is at the heart of this and has the most important hands-on role in ensuring that our customers are consistently served great & honest food. Cafe Kitchen Supervisors report to the General Managers and are responsible for all aspects of the kitchen including placing orders, executing prep, managing par levels, training, leading professionals, and working the line during service.
This is a multifaceted position where they need to have a complete working knowledge of all the recipes and techniques they use, as well as the ability to use a variety of equipment. They are the first line of quality control for food served in the cafes and need a keen attention to detail and strong commitment to upholding standards. They are also the first level of keeping costs down and must aim consistently for efficiency and waste reduction.
Bread Alone Supervisors must hold themselves and their teammates accountable to Bread Alone safety, culture, and employee conduct standards. They must address any product, equipment, and interpersonal issues in accordance with Bread Alone policy and seek support from managers when necessary. Supervisors are responsible for properly documenting and communicating with their manager any issue regarding product, equipment, or the team.
Supervisors take ownership and responsibility for their station. They embody the work ethic, curiosity, gritty determination, honesty, and humility that are at the core of the Bread Alone management principles. Supervisors ask for consent, build consensus, and never use coercion to lead their team.
Hours: This is a Full-time position, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday; 9am-5:30pm. We strive to make schedules as manageable as possible to encourage and allow work-life balance.

Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure safe, efficient, high quality operation of assigned station
- Create sustainability in our job environment through collaboration with your teammates in achieving our goals
- Maintains and implements a functional knowledge of food safety practices as well kitchen rules and policies.
- Ensure inventory is taken at the beginning of the day of all prepared items, removes expired items, and creates a prep list.
- Follows all recipes closely and packs / portions according to specifications.
- Records and reports all shortages and records all waste on logs.

- Fully understands all recipes and procedures and asks for clarification where needed.
- Packs cafe orders carefully and properly. Records and reports all shortages.
- Contributes to managing cleanliness and organization of storage including walk-in refrigerators, freezer, and dry storage. Rotates items according to safety standards, ensures proper labeling, and puts items away properly. Spot cleans regularly and deep cleans periodically.
- Demonstrate a commitment to Bread Alone’s core mission to consistently deliver high quality organic baked goods and prepared foods to the Hudson Valley and surrounding regions
- Actively and immediately communicate any issues to managers in your department
- Ensure that Bread Alone personal safety, culture, and food safety standards are being followed by you and all team members on your station
- Responsible for proper, safe equipment operation, including calibration, routine maintenance and routine troubleshooting as set by managers and training materials
- Provide feedback to managers and training department on areas of our protocols and training guidelines that need improvement
- Ensure that you and any professionals assigned to your station are following the break schedule. Communicate with your manager regarding any need for adjustments based on workflow as necessary
- Organize and delegate tasks as needed to any professionals assigned to your station
- Listen to team members, provide feedback to manager on any issues and seek support when necessary
- Coach and encourages team members to perform according to Bread Alone rules but defer any corrective or disciplinary action to their manager
- Report to manager any issues that arise that are outside supervisor responsibilities
Job Requirements:
- 1 year of professional cooking experience
- Willing and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Able to stand for long periods of time while executing tasks quickly and accurately
- Able to work in a physically demanding fast-paced environment
- Able to tolerate exposure to high levels of heat and cold
- Able to twist and bend repeatedly for long periods of time
- Respect for and comfort with a diverse and inclusive workplace
- Able to pull, push, move and lift to waist level
- Able to carry awkward and shifting weights up to 50 pounds in a safe and controlled manner
- Able to work with, handle, operate, and control hot equipment and products in a safe manner according to Bread Alone guidelines
- Able and willing to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and assigned uniform as required per company policy
- Willing to follow all safety guidelines set out by Bread Alone
- Team members must be willing to work consistently throughout the year which includes holidays and weekends
Job Type: Full-time, non-exempt
Compensation: Bread Alone is deeply committed to ethically balancing the demands of the business and paying a living wage to all those who contribute to our success. Pay for this position is $20.00 to $27.00 per hour PLUS TIPS. Consistently earn an average of $5/hr in tips – Reliable earnings that enhance your income.
