Purpose
The Center Store Assistant assists the Center Store Manager in maintaining the smooth functionality of the Center Store Department. Responsibilities include assisting with inventory and merchandise, receiving orders as they come in, ensuring that product is visible and accessible to consumers, product merchandising, conducting cyclical inventory, customer service, stocking, facing, and cleaning. This role can be combined with other responsibilities in the store.

- Part Time: 16-24 hours per week

Essential Responsibilities
- Department Maintenance and Organization
- Stock all areas in the Center Store Department, based on your schedule and the current needs of the department.
- Co op Deals Tags
- Sort through Co op Deal Tags to determine which ones we carry in the store before the ad begins.
- The day of the switch take down the old tags and put up the new tags, before the store opens.
- After all the new tags have been hung up, check each item to ensure that they are ringing up as the deal price. Any items that are not ringing up correctly, write down items and pass along to the Grocery Manager to fix in the system.
- Exhibit the ability to find vendor information, purchase history, and sales history from our Point-of-Sale system.
- Maintain an updated list of expired items. Waste out and clearance items the day before expiration. Place shelf-stable items on the clearance rack. Leave cooler and freezer items in their original spot and remove them at the end of the day that they expire.
- Physical Count
- Assist with the ongoing cyclical inventory of all sub-departments within the Center Store Manager's control.
- Orders
- Check in all small vendors the same day they arrive (or the next business day if they arrive on a weekend or on a holiday) Notify the Lead in the corresponding department or Center Store Manager on any credits within this time frame as well, verbally, or with a dated note.
- When a small vendor order arrives, ensure that the freezer and cooler items are placed into a freezer or cooler with 5 mins of arrival (either by being stocked in the storefront or placed in the appropriate back stock cooler or freezer, if you do not have time to check them in immediately.)
- Check in all small vendors the same day they arrive (or the next business day if they arrive on a weekend or on a holiday) Notify the Lead in the corresponding department or Center Store Manager on any credits within this time frame as well, verbally, or with a dated note.
Organizational Relationships
- Check in with your supervisor at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Communicate scheduling needs and PTO requests at least 4 weeks in advance.
- Each day ensure that you have a walkie on you to provide back up to other departments when needed or as delegated by the Center Store Manager.
- In the absence of other employees in your department, you may be delegated certain tasks/responsibilities that are not stated in your job description but will be delegated as needed by the Center Store Manager.
- Show leadership and take initiative in covering department responsibilities in the event of the emergencies or unforeseen circumstances.
- Participate in all department meetings, including meeting with the Center Store Manager at least once a month for a 1-1. Report any concerns or suggestions at 1-1's.
Customer Service
- Treat every customer with exceptional service.
- Answer customers questions to the best of your ability or find someone who can answer their question(s).
- Always ensure the front-end is attended to and customers are promptly welcomed.
- Greet customers when they are ready to be rung up, and ensure they were able to find everything they were looking for.
- All co-op staff should be knowledgeable on member benefits, cooperative structure, the co-op's history, promotions, and product.

- Ability to read register screen and product and shelf labels.

- Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, hazardous materials ranging from natural to chemical (store products, cleaning products, scents from working in a public setting).

- May work occasionally in temperature extremes (walk-in freezer, outside warehouse, hot kitchen, etc.).
- Noise level in the store is usually moderate to loud.
