Salary Range:$70-80k; commensurate with experience

Reporting To:Chief Executive Officer

ABOUT BREAK A DIFFERENCE

Break A Difference’s (B•A•D) mission is to strategically engage individuals and institutions through service to make positive impacts in communities in those who serve. As a nonprofit, we accomplish this by engaging corporations in large-scale service projects, preparing skilled leaders to serve on nonprofit boards, expanding the volunteer service capacity for nonprofits, and partnering with organizations to engage college students in week-long immersive service trips, otherwise known as Alternative Breaks. As a Baltimore-based nonprofit, we’re excited to make positive impacts in Baltimore and beyond.


Overview of Benefits

Health Insurance: Employer pays 100% employee health covers & 70% for dependents

Retirement: After 6-months, employer contributes 6% of employee’s salary.

Annual Leave: 15 days per year (up to 3 add’l Personal Days)

Holidays: 22 paid holidays per year


POSITION SUMMARY

The Community Impact Director will lead their department in overseeing all of Break A Difference’s volunteer programs by managing the development of service projects and events. As an impeccable organizer with aspirations to learn and do more, the Community Impact Director will have the opportunity to lead various phases of project development, logistics, and volunteer management. The Community Impact Director will curate impactful volunteer experiences in Baltimore and nationwide.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Category 1 - Service Project Development (40%)

  • Develop and oversee the strategic vision for Break A Difference’s volunteer and community engagement initiatives.
  • Lead the Community Impact Manager and department staff in designing, implementing, and evaluating service projects.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure impact and continuously improve programs.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to align department initiatives with organizational goals.
  • Oversee resource allocation, ensuring efficient use of personnel, budget, and materials.

Category 2 - Program Development & Oversight (40%)

  • Team Management
  • Lead a department focused on developing, implementing, and managing volunteer events and programs, with responsibility for a wide range of projects across the U.S. and internationally.
  • Manage & train 2-5 staff members including full time, seasonal staff and AmeriCorps members to support all department responsibilities
  • Cross-Department Collaboration
  • Work closely with the leadership team to ensure effective communication cross-departmentally
  • Support other departments as needed
  • Communicate updates, needs, barriers, and solutions to the CEO
  • Ensure high-quality execution of service projects, including logistics, budgets, and event operations.
  • Identify opportunities to innovate and enhance Break A Difference’s volunteer engagement offerings.
  • Oversee the development of new service project models, including in-office donation assemblies, offsite events, and large-scale initiatives.
  • Maintain compliance with safety protocols and risk management best practices.

Category 3 - Relationship Building (20%)

  • Cultivate and manage relationships with corporate partners, nonprofit organizations, and vendors to expand service opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Partnerships team to develop new corporate sponsorship opportunities.
  • Ensure nonprofit partners receive meaningful volunteer support and in-kind donations.
  • Represent Break A Difference at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities.
  • Create and lead supplier and vendor management.

Special Requirements:

  • Age Requirement: Must be 21 years or older with a valid driver's license for vehicle insurance purposes.
  • Vehicle Access: Preferred access to a personal vehicle.
  • Driving Skills: Comfortable driving or willing to learn to operate a cargo van and a 16' box truck.
  • Weekend Availability: Flexibility to work weekends as needed.
  • Travel Flexibility: Ability to travel for work (approximately 15-20% of the time).


QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in volunteer management, nonprofit program leadership, corporate social responsibility, or a related field.
  • 3 years of management experience, including supervising staff and leading teams.
  • Experience developing and managing volunteer programs and corporate partnerships.
  • Budget and project management experience, particularly in event planning or service project execution.

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strategic thinker with problem-solving and decision-making expertise.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Slack, and other productivity tools.
  • Experience using Airtable and CRM platforms.
