This individual will work at our fresh meat and poultry stand located inside the Lancaster Central Market with other staff to sell our premium, grass fed, locally raised, clean meats and poultry. Primary work days are Tuesday, Friday, Saturday (these are the days the market is open) & this individual is directly responsible for:
Supporting the market manager by completing the following tasks:
- Preparing grinds and cuts for the meat and poultry display cases
- Setting up meat and poultry display cases in an appealing manner for customer
- Cleaning and organizing the stand
- Restocking supplies
- Conducting daily, weekly and monthly inventory counts
- Monitoring refrigeration
- Performing light repair and maintenance of stand and equipment
- Maintaining sharp tools
- Monitoring the market phone (receiving and recording orders)
- Fulfilling orders
- Occasionally ordering and picking up supplies and materials
- Responding to emergencies as needed
- Prioritize the company’s best interests at all times
Developing relationships with and serving our customers by:
- Selling beef, pork, lamb and poultry products
- Guiding customers through the buying process
- Being knowledgeable of our meat and poultry products and using that knowledge to enhance the customer experience
- Answering questions regarding types, cuts and suggesting preparation for meats
Driving and other related duties:
This position is responsible for driving a small refrigerated box truck on city streets, monitoring the truck and reefer unit and light maintenance and repair on the unit.
Other duties as assigned may include but are not limited to:
Must be cross-trained in all manager’s duties and have the knowledge and ability to cover staffing shortages, vacations, etc.
Physical and other job qualifications:
- The ability to start early, work long hours and work on your feet for long periods
- The ability to lift up to 40lbs regularly and up to 80lbs periodically
- The ability to learn to use knives, meat grinder and other meat processing equipment and to use tooles safely (knowledge is preferred, but can be trained)
- Possess an active drivers license and clean driving record (the ability to drive a medium sized box truck on city streets is preferred but can be trained).
- Must have the flexibility and availability to respond to emergencies and the ability to work under pressure
- Must be able to count and have basic math skills and the ability to learn to use scales and other technical tools
- Must be able to use a cell phone
- Must have the ability to work with google applications, spreadsheets and email and be able to quickly learn how to operate our POS system
- Must have an eye for detail and asthetics
- Must have strong communication skills, ability to read & follow instructions & a desire to contribute to the team
- Must have customer service experience
- Must be able to accept constructive criticism as needed
- Must have exceptional time management skills and a sense of urgency
- The ability to walk, reach, bend and stoop as needed
- Must maintain good personal hygiene and a clean and neat appearance
- Must uphold professional standards and be honest, competent and respectful
- Must have knowledge of FIFO systems
- Must have ServSafe certification
