ABOUT THE SCHOOLWIDE TEAM
Breakthrough recognizes the value and need for high-quality advising services for high school students. In the schoolwide model, we directly serve all 11th and 12th-grade students at a given school, with a heavy focus on post-secondary opportunities after graduation. The program's overall goal is to increase postsecondary attainment rates among students in the Central Texas region.
ABOUT THE STUDENT ADVISOR (TEMPORARY) ROLE
The Student Advisor will deliver timely, high-quality advising to 11th and 12th-grade high school students at Eastside Early College High School, focusing on helping students achieve their academic and post-secondary goals. This role requires in-person advising on campus and additional virtual communication via phone calls, email, or text as needed. The advisor will work closely with high-priority students to maintain regular contact and provide individualized support throughout the advising period.
The Student Advisor will focus on supporting students through academic advising, college readiness, and post-secondary planning. Key responsibilities include:
Student Advising & Support
- Provide direct advising to a caseload of 40-50 high school students at Eastside Early College HS..
- Maintain biweekly (every 14 days) contact with high-priority students and ensure a preferred service standard of contact every 21 days for all other students on the caseload.
- Offer guidance on academic planning, college applications, financial aid, scholarships, and career exploration.
- Support students in overcoming any barriers preventing them from achieving their goals.
- Conduct parent/guardian outreach for all students in the caseload via email, phone, and text message.
Collaboration & Teamwork
- Attend Schoolwide meetings to stay aligned with school and district goals and to coordinate efforts.
- Participate in biweekly 1:1 check-ins with your direct supervisor to review student progress and receive feedback.
- Attend one whole-team monthly meeting to collaborate with the broader advising team and share insights or best practices.
Data Management & Reporting
- Keep all student case notes and progress updates accurate and up-to-date in Salesforce.
- Timely submission of student support requests is essential for ensuring students receive the necessary resources and interventions.
- Ensure that data is entered promptly after each advising session to maintain clear and accurate records.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience advising high school students in academic or postsecondary planning contexts preferred.
- Proficiency with Salesforce or similar CRM tools for tracking student data and case notes.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Strong communication and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
- Flexibility to adapt to both in-person and virtual advising formats as needed.
COMPENSATION & DURATION
- Hourly rate of $25 an hour
- Contract Duration: Start Date: November 11, 2024 - End Date: March 21, 2024 (approx. 15 weeks)
- Note: This timeframe is subject to extension based on performance and mutual agreement regarding program needs.
- Hours Per Week: 25-35 hours per week
- Total compensation will be based on hours worked and adherence to the position’s responsibilities. Additional hours or compensation may be negotiated if the contract is extended into the summer months.
