Milestone Clubhouse, located in Hutchinson, Kansas adheres to the International Standards for Clubhouse Programs (https://clubhouse-intl.org), a non-clinical model of recovery, empowering adults to achieve their goals while reducing isolation and building community.
Clubhouses are built upon the belief that every member has the potential to sufficiently recover from the effects of mental illness to lead a personally satisfying life as an integrated member of society. Clubhouses are communities of people who are dedicated to one another’s success, no matter how long it takes or how difficult it is. (Beard, Propst, Malamud, 1982)
Normal hours will be 8-4, M-F. Must be flexible for weekend, evening and holiday coverage.
FOR THIS POSITION WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
- Both strong communication and computer skills (Efficient in Microsoft Office), is acquainted with social media, and enjoys involving others in activities.
- Detail oriented
- Compassionate, calm and patient with those who may struggle with anxiety and is a creative problem solver
- Comfortable working in a fast paced/active, sometimes noisy environment
- Strong organizational skills
- Valid driver's license, proof of insurance and reliable transportation.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team, able to engage others in activities rather than doing them yourself
- Highly reliable with a strong work ethic, willingness to be trained in the Clubhouse model
- High energy with a positive attitude
- Bachelor’s level (preferred) or two years college and two years experience in mental health/social services
SCOPE OF POSITION
Accountable to the policies, procedures, and mission statement of Breakthrough Episcopal Social Services. The primary responsibility is to assist members and staff in the development and continuation of the work in the Clubhouse. This is NOT a desk job or a case management position. Program participants are volunteers involved in doing everything necessary to run their own program (admin., data entry, cooking, cleaning, events, etc.). Practitioners work hands-on alongside the participants doing the same tasks.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Establish relationships with colleagues consistent with Clubhouse philosophy, using a non-clinical community approach.
· Maintain confidentiality and professional ethical standards required by state and federal statutes that are generally accepted for social work.
· Demonstrate mindful representation of Clubhouse in the community and take the initiative to connect with other agencies that are involved in the member’s recovery.
· Work side by side with and engage members in a non-hierarchical manner, with respect to daily tasks, sharing in the daily operation of the Clubhouse.
· Actively promotes the development of member’s aspirations regarding participation, employment, education, and social involvements.
Demonstrate effective crisis intervention techniques.
Assist with outreach to members by organizing visits, phone calls, letters writing and electronic communications monthly to encourage attendance/involvement in the program.
Provide Transition Employment (TE) job coverage in the absence of members.
Assist in social club activities as scheduled.
Maintain documentation as needed.
Provide clean, safe & professional environment in which to work & socialize daily.
Other duties as assigned.
