- The Development Manager – Community Engagement organizes, develops, implements, and expands the Orange County/Inland Empire Community Engagement Program and the OC Walk Family Team Program, and helps expand Chapter fundraising results by building enhanced relationships with the local type 1 community, primarily in Orange County and the Inland Empire.
The position is based in Orange County (Tustin). We are currently working in a hybrid format, but that could change in the future based on job responsibilities/needs.
Primary Responsibilities
Community Engagement
- Develop and implement core Community Engagement programs in the Chapter, primarily in the Orange County & Inland Empire areas, including the Outreach Ambassador Program and Bag of Hope/Care Kit distribution and reporting. Leverage survey feedback/community input to guide direction of plans.
- In cooperation with chapter staff partners, manage the planning and execution of the OC Community Summit, the Chapter’s largest educational and programmatic event, in accordance with National guidelines. May include leadership of Advisory Committee, volunteer recruitment and management, and development of robust programming, recruitment of qualified and engaging speakers, and development of programming for youth attendees.
- Manage the Orange County Youth Ambassador (YA) program, designed to build leadership opportunities for our youngest advocates. Coordinate YA activation at core fundraising programs. Recruit/steward volunteer YA Chair and partner with them to manage the program and YAs. Specific duties to be determined based on Chapter program and priorities.
- Engage newly diagnosed families and individuals, T1D community members, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders in chapter programs and activities to support and drive the Breakthrough T1D mission.
- Develop and build relationships with key diabetes healthcare professionals and diabetes industry representatives in the OC & IE communities to market the Community Engagement Program, disseminate resources, and support Chapter fundraising programs.
- Work with Chapter staff to identify, solicit, recruit, and develop volunteers for leadership and support roles in implementing OC/IE Community Engagement and Walk Programs (including Outreach Committee Chair, YA Chair, Walk Family Team Chair, OC Board members, etc.)
- Collaborate with Community Engagement peers in the chapter and across the organization and participate in National Community Engagement meetings, trainings and working groups.
- Support Breakthrough T1D’s Advocacy initiatives and local Advocacy volunteer efforts in OC and IE.
- Develop and manage Chapter Community Engagement communication for the OC/IE communities, such as volunteer updates, newsletter content, and social media. Plan and coordinate Community Engagement materials for committee meetings, healthcare provider meetings, networking/support group meet ups, etc.
- Utilize and manage OC/IE social media (IG, Facebook, LinkedIn) to increase visibility and promote programs and events.
Fundraising
- Lead OC Walk Family Team program and new Walk Family Team recruitment through relationship development with newly diagnosed families. Ensure an impactful experience for all new and existing family teams at Walk, including identification of success metrics such as revenue and percentage growth of new family teams and retention and growth of existing teams. Works in conjunction with Chapter Development staff to develop fundraising pipeline by introducing newly diagnosed families to the Breakthrough T1D Mission, supporting engagement opportunities and identifying donor prospects. Manages a portfolio of new and returning family Walk teams, including fundraising revenue goals and team retention.
- Work within Chapter budget to ensure fiscal responsibility and maintain accurate and complete financial records to ensure budgets and timelines are met.
- Surface and apply for local grants to fund Community Engagement projects in partnership with Institutional Funding partner.
- Manage and oversee accurate recording of information in CRM and adoption of established processes, including accurate, detailed, and timely entry of meaningful donor/supporter meetings.
- In partnership with the Executive Director and other relevant chapter staff, develop an annual plan for OC Walk and OC/IE Community Engagement including financial goals, objectives, and calendar of activities.
- Identify and cultivate potential OC board members and other volunteer leaders with Chapter Executive Director.
- Assist in identifying, cultivating, and stewarding mid-level and major donors.
- Serve as a liaison for Community Engagement staff and volunteers, managing volunteer relationships to uphold Breakthrough T1D strategic priorities and messaging.
- Maintain a sound understanding of Breakthrough T1D’s mission and research cure therapeutics.
Qualifications
- 4 years relevant experience and college degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of fundraising and organizing community initiatives.
- Volunteer management experience.
- Knowledge of administrative procedures, such as coordination of people and resources, planning, and resource allocation.
- Proficient with MS Office and databases.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task, establish priorities, and work in a demanding environment.
- Highly efficient in time management and meeting deadlines under pressure.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Team player who can interface with all levels of staff and volunteers. Must develop and maintain positive and effective relationships.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work and make judgments independently and take initiative. Well-disciplined resourceful self-starter who is an active listener, analytical, and skilled problem-solver.
- Ability to travel locally. Occasional overnight and weekend travel as needed.
Target Salary - $70k - $75k
