The National Manager is responsible for the full spectrum of institutional fundraising—from prospecting to stewardship—and serves as a critical partner to chapter and national staff in elevating our national presence and impact.

Responsibilities

  • Qualify, cultivate, steward and grow a personal portfolio of 50–75 institutional donors and prospects capable of making five- and six-figure gifts.
  • Aspire to raise at least $1M annually through approximately 50 asks per year.
  • Personally conduct or participate in at least 40 meaningful donor engagements annually (qualification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship).
  • Lead prospect identification efforts and strategically manage internal and external relationships to grow revenue from new institutional sources.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on funding priorities such as cell therapies, clinical trials, global advocacy, health equity, mental health, screening, health policy, food as medicine, and community engagement.
  • Collaborate with Research, Community Engagement, Advocacy, Medical Affairs, Finance, Development, Legal, and Marketing colleagues to develop visionary, high-impact proposals that stitch together Breakthrough T1D’s national and local work.
  • Collaborate with Regional and Executive Directors to ensure alignment of strategic priorities and local capacity for implementation.
  • Partner closely with the National Director and broader team to manage donors throughout their lifecycle using a moves management framework.
  • Represent Institutional Giving on cross-functional projects and initiatives that enhance donor experience and impact.
  • Leverage internal resources and databases (including Salesforce and institutional document libraries) to ensure consistent, high-quality funder communications and reporting.
  • Provide grant writing, coaching, and training support for chapter staff as requested to build organizational capacity.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of all donor activity in Salesforce.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to stay current on trends in institutional philanthropy, AI-driven prospecting, equity-centered grantmaking, and more.
  • Collaborate with other revenue verticals (specifically Corporate Giving and Leadership Giving) to identify opportunities for shared funding initiatives.

  • College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; GPC (Grant Professional Certified) is preferred.
  • Proven track record of writing compelling, strategic proposals and aligning complex programmatic work with funder priorities.
  • Bold and confident communicator who isn’t afraid to ask for money—and isn’t deterred by hearing “no.”
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of staff across the organization.
  • Exceptional relationship manager with experience working with both new and legacy funders.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills; ability to translate technical content into persuasive language.
  • Strong financial literacy; able to interpret and clearly present budgets and financial documents.
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills; deadline-driven and detail-oriented.
  • Exceptional database management skills. Experience with Salesforce preferred.
  • Experience in decentralized, federated, or networked organizations preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness and ability to travel nationwide up to 25% of the time, including overnight and some weekends.
