General Summary: The Equipment Operator 3 works at BREC parks, playgrounds, tennis courts, and other facilities, operating light to heavy equipment, trucks, and tools, performing and leading maintenance and repair work.
Preferred: Vo-tech school diploma or associate's degree.
Area of Study (major) Preferred: Horticulture/ Construction or related.
License(s) Required: Valid LA Class A CDL w/air brakes. Must have good driving record.
Years Relevant Work Experience: 2 years related experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Preferred: 5 or more years related experience, at least 3 years full-time at BREC
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the principles and methods operating commercial type and grounds maintenance equipment.
- Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Good interpersonal & organizational skills with ability to prioritize and inspect work
- Good communication/interpersonal skills
- Must have a positive attitude with the willingness and desire to learn new skills
- Skill in the operation of light to heavy equipment
- Skill in the use of hand and power tools
- Skill in cleaning and maintaining equipment
- Ability to adjust to changing work demands, procedures, technology, and/or priorities
- Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments and detect problems with equipment
- Ability to read, understand and follow instructions
- Ability to drive a BREC/Vehicle and/or equipment to perform essential duties
- Ability to read and write the English language and prepare reports
- Ability to establish & maintain effective working relationships with others
- Operates variety of commercial type equipment including, but not limited to; riding mowers, mini-excavator, backhoe, front end loader, pressure washer, trucks, trailers, dump trucks, bucket trucks, tractors with various attachments, aerifiers, blowers, graders, skid loader, rollers, and other related grounds maintenance equipment in order to maintain parks and athletic fields in an outdoor setting.
- Operates and transports all equipment requiring an advanced Commercial Driver's License (Class A and B).
- Performs all functions of an Operator 2.
- Loads, unloads trucks and trailers with heavy equipment and small equipment.
- Cleans, performs basic preventative maintenance/repairs, and prepares equipment for operations. (Washes, fuels, oils, lubes, clean/change air filters, etc.)
- Ability to work independently and or as a team
- Occasionally directs and oversees the work of other team members as assigned.
- Relays assignments as required or under direction/instruction of supervisor(s)
- Repairs and maintains playground equipment, athletic field maintenance and set-up, repairs and constructs fences
- Grades, fills, levels park surfaces, digs/fills ditch, loads dirt/sand/gravel/brush/debris and other materials onto trucks.
- Performs repairs to parking lots and roads, including, but not limited to gravel asphalt, concrete and other paved and loose fill surfaces
- Cut/load/remove tree limbs.
- All other duties as assigned.
