The Membership and Special Events Manager is responsible for all aspects of the Baton Rouge Zoo annual pass program including maintenance of the large database, supervision of Guest Services Associate sales staff, membership mailings, and processing memberships. Facilitates planning, preparation and implementation of the Zoo’s established signature events as well as researching potential new events. Creates and maintains on a daily basis the Zoo’s social media presence including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages.Education Required: Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university.
Area of Study (major) Required: Mass Communications, Marketing, Business Administration (advertising) or any related field of study.
Certification(s) Required: N/A
License(s) Required: Valid Driver’s License

- Knowledge of the communities served by the Baton Rouge Zoo
- Knowledge of local working media representation
- Excellent administrative & organizational skills

- Knowledge of all membership (annual pass) levels
- Strong interpersonal & communication skills and ability to communicate both orally & in writing
- Good math skills and ability to perform basic accounting/budgeting functions
- Skilled in the use of computer & software applications
- Ability to develop & maintain effective working relations with departmental staff and to relate well to representatives of public & private interest groups, the news media, the public and officials of other agencies.
- Ability to supervise Membership sales team, data entry associate under direction of Director of Marketing and Public Relations
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for new and renewed membership procurement and processing, including, but not limited to, assembling and mailing membership packets; reconciling applications with deposits, and making bank deposits
- Responsible for the input and maintenance of the membership database to ensure data security and integrity
- Familiar with membership database in order to complete monthly duties such as pulling membership renewals and sending thank you letters.
- Oversee direct mail campaign
- Develop and implement end-of-year gift appeal to members
- Train and supervise part-time membership sales staff
- Manage scheduling for all part-time FOZ staff
- Works to resolve all membership inquiries with members and potential members
- Works with Director of Marketing and Public Relations and other departments to write newsletter, e-newsletter and all other membership materials, and maintain member’s section of the Zoo’s website
- Responsible for completing errands such as bringing deposits to the bank, purchasing office supplies, completing adopt and animal packets, or specific event errands.
- Responsible for coordinating and overseeing Zoo events with staff, sponsors and vendors so events run smoothly ensuring maximum guest and sponsor satisfaction
- Responsible for effectively planning and leading event meetings with administrative staff
- Strategically establish events calendar to maximize exposure and minimize competition with other attractions/venues
- Coordinate the production of materials for events including posters, banners, website postings and sponsor signage
- Prepare and distribute event information to all Zoo staff including maintenance requests, rental and vendor information/needs
- Conduct evaluations during and after events to determine guest satisfaction, fiscal success, and to build and maintain an event history
- Conduct research and develop ideas for new membership benefits and events
- Oversee the Zoo’s Cameo accounts and coordinate with education staff to ensure all requests are fulfilled
