The Natural Resource Tech II performs professional work within the Natural Resource Division including daily operations and maintenance of primitive and nature hiking trails. Assists with all division natural resource management activities such as surveying, weeding, invasive species removal, planting and more as neededEducation Required:
Years Relevant Work Experience:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Conducts trail maintenance operations at multiple locations around the parish.
• Carries out maintenance procedures on equipment
• Operates variety of trail maintenance equipment including but not limited to; chainsaws, brushcutters, blowers, UTV, 4-wheeler and bobcat.
• Documents daily activities through photo record and reports daily operations to supervisor.
• Assists NR Trails Foreman with construction projects of trails, amenities, and signage as needed.
• Assists NR Trails Foreman in directing and managing volunteers as needed.
• Drives trucks and trailers with loaded equipment from site to site.
• Assists with Natural Resource Management activities such as planting, weeding, pesticide application, invasive species removal, surveying, etc.
• Cut/haul tree limbs, trees, and vegetation as needed
Secondary Job Duties:
• Assumes other tasks as assigned by the NR Trails Foreman and Assistant Director of Natural Resource Management.

- H.S. diploma or equivalent.
- Valid LA driver's license
Years Relevant Work Experience:
- One (1 ) year of related experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Specialized experience in specific field of hire (Tree care and trail maintenance)
- Ability to operate maintenance equipment and motorized vehicles.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and writing in the English Language
- Ability to work independently and communicate problems to direct supervisor.
- Ability to adjust to changing work demands, procedures, technology, and/or priorities
- Ability to perform manual and skilled labor in various weather conditions
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs., occasionally
- Ability to follow simple oral & written instructions
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relations with others
- Ability to operate a BREC Vehicle and off-road vehicle to perform essential functions of the job.
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences and work collaboratively with colleagues, supervisors, and stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in outdoor environments and adverse weather conditions
