The Publicity Manager - Marketing is responsible for information and public relations on behalf of the Recreation and Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge (BREC). Publicity Manager is responsible for implementation of policies, procedures, strategies and techniques of community relations and internal and external communications. Related work as required.Education Required: Graduation from an accredited 4 year college or university.
Preferred: Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
Area of Study (major) Required: Mass communications, Marketing, Business administration (advertising) or any related field of study.
Preferred: Any related curriculum.
License(s) Required: Valid LA Drivers License
Years Relevant Work Experience: 4 years marketing experience; Web experience (editing). Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Preferred: 10 years related experience.

- Knowledge of the communities served by BREC.
- Knowledge of local working media representation.
- Knowledge of current and accepted management concepts and practices.
- Excellent administrative and organizational skills.
- Good math skills and ability to perform basic accounting/budgeting functions.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Skill in using a computer and standard office software including, Microsoft Office, databases, and presentation programs.
- Ability to quickly learn BREC policies, procedures, and department programs.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain effective working relations with departmental staff, representatives of public and private interest groups, news media, the public and officials of other agencies.
- Responsible for the creation and implementation of marketing plans.
- Manage marketing and advertising budgets.
- Maintain contact with media advertising vendors.
- Conduct and schedule media interviews.
- Edit quarterly program guides.
- Maintain current list of upcoming events; provide to numerous media sources according to established schedule. Follows up with media representatives as needed.
- Assist in writing, editing, and reviewing stories, press releases and other information pertinent to BREC and/or its facilities.
- Provide public relations, communications advice, and consultation to BREC facilities staff.
- Encourage promotional efforts, edit employee or volunteer-written articles, and coordinate publications.
- Assist with Special Events as needed.
