Overview

The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of surgical procedures within a healthcare facility. Working closely with surgeons, nurses, and other medical personnel, the CST is responsible for maintaining a sterile environment, preparing surgical instruments, and assisting during operations. This position not only demands technical skill and knowledge of surgical processes but also the ability to stay calm under pressure. Given the fast-paced nature of surgical settings, the CST significantly impacts patient care by ensuring that the surgical team has everything needed for successful operations, adhering to safety protocols, and facilitating communication among team members. Key Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room before surgery by setting up sterile instruments and equipment.
• Assist in positioning patients safely and comfortably on the operating table.
• Maintain a sterile field throughout the surgical procedure.
• Anticipate the needs of the surgical team during operations.
• Pass surgical instruments to surgeons and assistants as directed.
• Monitor and maintain supplies and instruments during the procedure.
• Handle specimens according to established protocols.
• Communicate with the surgical team regarding patient status and any changes in condition.
• Assist in the cleaning and maintenance of surgical instruments and equipment.
• Participate in preoperative and postoperative patient care.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and procedures.
• Assist with patient transport and prepare patients for discharge post-surgery.
• Maintain accurate sterile counts on instruments and sponges.
• Participate in quality control and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Stay updated on surgical procedures and technological advancements in the field.
  
  

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree in surgical technology preferred.
• Current certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from an accredited program.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in surgical settings preferred.
• Knowledge of surgical instruments, procedures, and practices.
• Familiarity with sterile techniques and infection control protocols.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing patient and surgical needs.
• Proficient in using medical equipment and technology.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to patient safety.
• Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations.
• Physical stamina to stand for long periods and assist during procedures.

Schedule and Shift Details
