PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENINGS: Brenau University will conduct criminal background checks on all persons being considered for initial employment. In some circumstances, an FBI fingerprint report may be necessary to satisfy the requirement. Once employed, employees must hold and continue to maintain a favorable criminal history background. Random background checks are performed. Credit checks may be performed on candidates/employees who are selected for a position that regularly engages in handling credit cards or other company monies. A Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) may be performed during the hiring process, or as part of a random check. MVR checks are required to meet insurance requirements for those employees operating a university vehicle or participating in any driving activity on behalf of Brenau University, (including operating a golf cart, rented vehicle or one’s personal vehicle). Employees who travel must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid Georgia driver’s license, and good driving record. All employees who operate university vehicles, who are employed in a sensitive position, or who travel regularly as part of their job responsibilities may be subject to post-hire drug screening and random drug-screening. All employees are subject to reasonable suspicion drug screening.

Brenau University is hiring in the area of English. 

Job Responsibilities:   

  • Be current and knowledgeable in the subject matter being taught.  
  • Be academically prepared for each class.  
  • Abide by the established course syllabus outcomes.  
  • Serve as a resource person and facilitator in the learning process.  
  • Provide evaluations that are appropriate, equitable, professional, and designed to improve student performance.  
  • Exhibit objectivity in all dealings with students and in all aspects of the learning process.  
  • Continually adapt teaching strategies in the implementation of the course to meet the needs of all students.  
  • Develop and encourage an atmosphere of openness in the classroom.  
  • Be familiar with the services provided by the various institutional offices such as Financial Aid, Registrar's Office, Student Services, Center for Academic Success, Office of Accessibility Services, Library, and the Writing Center so as to be able to assist and direct students when necessary.  
  • Support student activities on a professional level.  


Qualifications:  

  • Training in Canvas is required and provided.  
  • In order to be eligible to teach undergraduate classes at Brenau University, candidates must possess a Master's degree and at least 18 graduate hours in the discipline being taught.

  • EH 101 Written Communication  
  • EH 102 Reading and Research Writing  
  • EH 103 Oral Communication  
  • EH 203 Varied Voices in American Literature
  • EH 230 World Literature Before 1650
  • EH 245 Women's Literary Studies

Position Location: 
Gainesville and Online   

  • All courses except EH 103 online are taught in 14-week terms: Fall, Spring, and Summer.  
  • EH 103 online is taught in 7-week terms, Fall and Spring.   

Home Campus Designation:

This position is based in Gainesville, GA.

Training:
Training in Canvas (our learning management system) is required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
No supervisory responsibilities required. 

Environmental and Working Conditions/ Physical Demands and Aptitudes:
Mostly Sedentary work. Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment related to teaching. Prolonged periods sitting and standing. worker is required to have close visual acuity to grade papers, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

Title IX Implications: Responsible Employee

Brenau University requires that all Responsible Employees MUST report any possible sexual harassment or discrimination based on sex to the Title IX Coordinator when the employee has information about conduct that reasonably may constitute sex discrimination or sex-based harassment under Title IX or this part. When an employee or a student (or a person who has a legal right to act on behalf of a student) informs any employee (including both Responsible and Confidential employees) of the employee’s or student’s pregnancy or related conditions, that employee must promptly provide that person with the Title IX Coordinator’s contact information and inform that person that the Title IX Coordinator can coordinate specific actions to prevent sex discrimination and ensure the employee’s or student’s equal access to the Recipient’s education program or activity.

Licensure Requirements:
