PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENINGS: Brenau University will conduct criminal background checks on all persons being considered for initial employment. In some circumstances, an FBI fingerprint report may be necessary to satisfy the requirement. Once employed, employees must hold and continue to maintain a favorable criminal history background. Position Summary:
The Interior Design Department at Brenau University seeks applicants for a full-time (9-month) Assistant or Associate Professor position, beginning in August 2025 for the Fall semester. The successful candidate will be NCIDQ-certified and will work to fully engage with our student population in their learning and growth.
Brenau University, located in Gainesville, Georgia, is a private, comprehensive liberal arts university. The mission of the university is reflected in the strong emphasis on the broad-based liberal arts education through more than thirty majors. Housed in the College of Fine Arts & Humanities, the Interior Design department has been FIDER/CIDA-accredited for 35 years, maintaining these credentials through detailed course planning, small class sizes, and varied learning style delivery methods. The successful candidate’s primary duties will be in the undergraduate program. In addition, they will contribute to MFA thesis committees and courses, as needed. Our department seeks candidates prepared to teach a variety of courses at the upper and lower curriculum levels that will complement their respective areas of expertise and/or practice areas such as interiors-focused design studios, design and color theory, computer graphics and technology courses, and building systems/codes courses. Preference will be given specifically to candidates who are proficient at and have experience teaching AutoCAD, Revit and Enscape, or similar professional rendering software. Additional consideration will be given to candidates with skills in SketchUp, Photoshop and InDesign. Digital skills are highly valued, particularly as they aid in the preparation of students for professional practice. The ideal candidate will provide expertise in practice-based studio education instructing by means of a variety of research methods. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and teaching studio and lecture courses, including (potentially) online delivery, in their areas of expertise. Studio instruction is based in real-world practice and expertise, therefore rotating studio cohorts would be assigned at the time of hire.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Terminal degree in interior design, interior architecture, architecture, or related discipline (M.A., M.S., M.F.A., M.I.D., M. Arch. or Ph.D) and a demonstrated experience and interest in an area of interior design inquiry.
- Over one year experience teaching at the college/university level. Proven, student-focused educator with effective recruitment, retention and outreach experience. Demonstrated effective undergraduate advising. Practical committee work involvement.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, professional rendering software such as Enscape, and proven responsiveness to emerging technologies. Knowledge of the Adobe Suite and experience with SketchUp would additionally set candidates apart.
- Experience as a practitioner with excellent industry credentials. Certified or intended certification of NCIDQ within one year of hire. Accreditation in LEED AP and/or WELL Building Standards preferred. Affiliation with professional organizations in the discipline. A solid record of creative/professional practice.
- Be a good communicator, collaborator and team player who can thrive in a dynamic, and multi-focused environment. Likewise, faculty should work well within their department, college, and amongst university committees and task forces. Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will teach a 4/4 course load covering a range of interior design topics that meet CIDA Standards, Serve on a University committee, Attend meetings, convocations, graduations and other ceremonies, as required, Advise and Mentor cohorts of students in the department, and Promote the department for continued growth.

No supervisory responsibilities required.
Work Hours:
Full-time. 37.5 hours per week. Generally, Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. Hours may be extended to meet the needs of the department.

Mostly Sedentary work. Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment related to teaching. Prolonged periods sitting and standing. worker is required to have close visual acuity to grade papers, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. Must have the ability to travel short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. Exerting up to 15 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Some repetitive motion.
