Veterinary Assistant

We are looking for an experienced, full-time Veterinary Assistant to be a part of our work-family! We are an established, small, single-doctor hospital, caring for dogs and cats (and their people). The Veterinary Assistant is an important part of our team--caring for the animals, but also responsible for the day-to-day operations of a veterinary practice. The schedule is Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 8:30am-5:30pm, Tuesday 8:30am-12:30pm

Duties include:

assisting veterinarian with animal restraint during exams

in-house labwork: fecal flotation, heartworm, chemistry

monitoring patients under anesthesia

assisting during surgical procedures

dental cleanings

cleaning and sterilizing instruments

pharmacy: filling prescriptions, restocking medications and recording drugs

assisting with digital radiography

cleaning tables, equipment, cages and runs

walking, feeding and medicating boarded and hospitalized patients

baths, nail trims and anal glands

discharging pets to their owners, discussing medications and aftercare

taking brief histories from clients about their pets

occasionally answering the phone and assisting the receptionists
