The ideal candidate will be team-oriented with a background in working with high school students, their families, college representatives, faculty, and administrators.The principal responsibilities of an Associate Director include : Assisting and advising students and their families as they move through the college research, application, and selection processActing as academic advisor to a small cohort of studentsReading and giving feedback on student essaysWriting letters of recommendationStaying up-to-date on all college-related activities and assisting with college communicationsAssisting with the coordination and presentation of informational events for parentsConferring individually with students about college and career opportunities, high school curriculum choices, and the athletic recruitment processAdvising students about course selections and the course scheduling processSupporting college counseling team efforts with the school website, College Kickstart, Scoir, and other related platformsHelping with the updating of office materials, including our college profileMeeting with college representatives and establishing solid working relationships with admissions counselors throughout the countryIdeally should have extensive knowledge of colleges and universities domestic and worldwide to help students find the best holistic fitEngaging actively in the Brentwood School community, including attending sporting events, performing arts productions, and other student activitiesSharing chaperone responsibilities with college counseling team members for college tripsAttending state and national conferencesActing as an advocate for studentsServing as an advisor in our advisory programAttending weekend and evening programming for families and studentsAdditional attributes include : A detail-oriented approach to work and outstanding communication skills including writing, listening, and public speakingA proactive, solutions-oriented professional who can take initiative, work independently, and contribute immediatelyKnowledge of Domestic & International Higher Education : The ideal candidate must have extensive knowledge of colleges and universities worldwide to help students find the best holistic fit.The energy, patience, and sense of humor necessary to work effectively with high school students and their familiesProficiency in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and the ability to learn additional software such as Scoir and College KickstartAt least five years of experience in admissions, college counseling, or a related field, preferably at both the college and high school levelsEngagement in professional and personal development and commitment to growth in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion.Participation and initiation of opportunities that demonstrate one's growth, knowledge, and skillsA Bachelor’s degree is required with advanced degrees preferredWhile being vaccinated for COVID-19 is not required, it is strongly recommended.COMPENSATION : Brentwood School's employment requirements vary, from positions requiring no experience to those needing 20 years of expert experience. Our salary range includes all levels of experience, from $110,000 - $135,000. Salaries are determined based on years of experience, education, full- or part-time status, the category of the role, and the number of months of work per school year. Salary ranges do not include benefits, i.e. 403b retirement matching, paid lunchtime, free breakfast and lunch, free parking, subsidy toward medical, dental, vision, life / AD&D plans, and generous time off. The pay range is an estimate and is not guaranteed.
