Fixed Asset Accountant
Performs accounting activities within the general ledger group in the finance department. Employee may perform other related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
Essential Responsibilities
- Ensure that fixed asset accounting transactions are recorded timely and accurately in accordance with company policy and U.S GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles)
- Responsible for fixed asset accounting including additions, retirements, transfers, impairments, construction in progress ,amortization and depreciation
- Support the monthly close process which includes reconciliation of the fixed asset and construction in progress subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger
- Research and resolve reconciling items
- Prepare, review and analyze monthly fixed asset reporting
- Responsible for maintaining fixed asset and construction in progress records through utilization of the Fixed Asset Reporting System (FAS)
- Assigns asset tags to capitalized assets
- Conduct periodic physical inventory counts of fixed assets
- Track and maintain internal NPP projects
- Report on project spending variances to project managers
- Track company expenditures for fixed assets in comparison to the capital budget
- Contribute to the annual budget process, ad-hoc reporting, analysis and special projects as required
- Assist in the preparation of requests for external audits
- Maintain written policies and procedures for all processes within scope of the Fixed Asset Accountant role
- Ability to work independently and effectively communicate with individuals outside of the finance department to accomplish tasks
- Assist in process improvement and standardization projects by identifying risk areas and recommendation for improvements
- Backup for various other cross-trained responsibilities within finance department
- Use of ERP system, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word and Outlook), Sage Fixed Asset Software (FAS), and other software related to job functions
- Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Accounting or Finance; three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Analyzes qualitative and quantitative data to define the most relevant and systemic organizational problems and issues; compares, contrasts, and combines seemingly independent information to understand system interdependencies, system wide trends, issues and possible cause-effect relationships; makes suggestions for improvements and implements upon approval
- Requires knowledge and experience with ERP based accounting systems
