Position Summary

Essential Job Functions
- Focus on, and mastery of one or more areas of building tooling, for light/heavy gauge thermoforming, and tooling for punch press operations and progressive punch & dies.
- Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished tooling for work pieces, and determine sequence of operations, and setup requirements for successful completion to print and communicated requirements.
- Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, radial drill press, surface grinders, and band saws. Welds and operates welding equipment to cut or weld parts.
- Refers to senior team members and peers to secure process of make and build.
- Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut. Consult with peers and confirm methods.
- Ability to build and repair Tooling in consultation with senior team members. Coordinate purchase of tooling and communicate in consultation with senior team members.
- Operates and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions and adjusts machine controls or control media as required, including speeds and feeds depending on tool selection.
- Inspects and verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications. This may include measurement, data collection and Inspection. Hard data may be required on certain projects.
- Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly. Verifies Assemblies and part dimensions for alignment of assembly.
- May be asked to pursue certification for forklift operation and/or cranes, sling, hoists, and other equipment as needed.
- Complete forms, disposition changes, label chemicals, and complete any other necessary paperwork.
- Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, and/or other technical experts to resolve machining or assembly problems.
- Maintain department housekeeping and 5S program requirements.
- Work in other work centers as production needs require.
- Perform all work procedures in accordance with safety standards.
- Perform all work procedures according to established Quality Management & Environmental Management Systems.
- Diploma from a relevant High School Vocational program or a two-year degree from a technical college; and two to four years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Preferred: High School Vocational program training in Precision Machining Technology or Computer Machining Technology. Solidworks, Mastercam, CNC/Milling machines, Thermoforming Mold Making, Tool and die Making, Plastic Injection Mold Making, Foundry Pattern Making, Machine Building or Precision Manual Machining.
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. ANSI Y14.5M training. Tow motor Certification, Overhead Crane Training.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of the organization.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra. Mastery of geometry, and trigonometry. Must be able to use precision measuring equipment. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
