Description
PURPOSE :
This position involves responsibility for performing various activities to meet the care and / or service needs of a client in their home environment. This includes but not limited to : personal care assistance, meal preparation, housekeeping, laundry, transportation, activities, and resident support services as well as participate in improving quality of care / services. Staff members must exhibit patience and tact in dealing with the aged, many of whom need additional assistance. The work is performed according to established procedures and performed under the direction and supervision of the Home Support Director.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Prepares specific food items following appropriate standards for food preparation, handling, and services.
- Serve client meals ensuring the temperature, portions, and timeliness of the service.
- Performs a variety of general cleaning duties for the entire house which includes but is not limited to : dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning windows, cleaning carpets.
- Perform laundry duties such as washing, drying, folding and putting away
- Empties waste containers, collects and disposes of recyclables and garbage.
- Change bed linens and make beds.
- Collects soiled laundry : washes, dries, folds, irons, performs minor clothing repairs and distributes laundry.
- Delivers mail and packages to client.
- Transport client when needed.
- Assists with all client needs for personal care services.
- Inform supervisor of client needs and concerns.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS CONTINUED :
Responds to procedures for alarms and alerts including notifying appropriate staff.Attends and participates in Brethren Care At Home team meetings as required.Attends in-services outside of Brethren Care Village and / or Brethren Care At Home for support and needs of the client.Maintain credit hours for the year based on requirements for State Tested Nursing Assistance (if applicable)ASSIGNMENT, REVIEW, AND APPROVAL OF WORK :
Keeps Home Support Director informed of status / needs changes routinelyReceives instruction from Director of Home Support.Annual performance evaluation and goal setting with Home Support Director.RESPONSIBILITY AND DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY :
Decision-making limited to the scope of daily operations and needs of the residents using the At Home services.REPORT PREPARATION :
All changes in client conditions.All incidents or accidents.All hazardous conditions in the home or on home property that could injure client / staff member or impair the ability to provide services safely.EQUIPMENT OPERATION :
Basic kitchen equipment : stove, microwave, blenders, dishwasher, can openersBasic washer and dryer.Basic health monitoring equipment : weight scale, thermometer, blood pressure monitor, glucose monitor.Basic mobility equipment / aid : wheelchairs, walkers, canes, recliners, lift chairs.RELATIONS WITH OTHERS :
Communicates clearly with all team members and maintains a cooperative spirit.SPECIFICATIONS - MENTAL / PHYSICAL :
Work / tasks are performed primarily indoors, some outdoor activities including gardening, possible transportation, and special outdoors events.Potential exposure to blood and body fluids, with occasional exposure to hazardous materials and / or infectious diseases.Exposure to stress of working with clients and families.Exposure to clients who are confused, irrational, agitated, combative, with potential for abrupt mood swings.Lifts routinely items weighing up to 25lbs, occasionally lifts items weighing up to 50 - 75lb, including assistance with transferring residents requiring assistance.Stands and walks frequently on hard surfaces throughout the day.Bends, stoops, and twist frequently.Able to verbally communicate with clients, families, and staff.Able to visualize changes in resident mood or physical condition.Ability to think critically under pressure, react calmly during stressful or emergent situations and to assist with evacuation of clients if necessary.EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND TRAINING NECESSARY :
Must meet minimum requirements established by the State of Ohio.Be willing to take continuing education classes.WORKING CONDITIONS
Indoors, well-lighted and ventilated space. Subject to possible falls, odors and injuries from equipment and or client assistance with transfers. May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, chemicals, and various viruses, including Hepatitis B and AIDS.Outdoors, possible exposure to weather extremesLEARNING PERIOD REQUIRED :
