Bretton Woods is a truly unique private club with a very high percentage of international members from all over the world. The 285-acre property includes 18 holes of golf, 14 tennis courts, 3 swimming pools, 2 soccer fields, 3 playgrounds and a full team building ropes course. Located on the Potomac River the Center has numerous water activities as well.
Bretton Woods Recreation Center, Inc. (BWRC) is hiring seasonal lifeguards. Lifeguards will be responsible for the safety and well-being of members and guests. We are looking for enthusiastic, dependable, and focused individuals who enjoy working with people.
Reports to: Pool Manager
Supervises: None
Requirements and Qualifications
- Must be at least 15 years of age in accordance with child labor regulations.
- Red Cross or equivalent certifications in CPR/AED, First Aid and Lifeguard.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with other pool staff.
- Strong communication skills and command of the English language.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in high-pressure situations, and to work in a fast-paced environment, where change and improvement is always present.
- Availability to work an open schedule to include mornings, nights, weekends and holidays.
- Must have reliable transportation. No public transportation is available.
Essential Functions
- Ensure the safety of facility patrons. Report any hazardous or unsafe conditions to Pool Manager.
- Recognize and respond to emergencies effectively. This includes, but is not limited to, performing lifeguarding skills, First Aid, and CPR until the arrival of emergency medical services.
- Appropriately document all emergencies.
- Respond to any weather conditions appropriately to ensure the safety of all members, guests, and staff.
- Enforce all pool rules, policies, regulations, and procedures as outlined.
- Perform general care and cleaning of the entire facility and basic maintenance of equipment under the direction of the Pool Manager and Assistant Pool Manager
- Communicate in a professional, clear, and concise manner to members, guests, and staff.
- Assist pool guests with requests and concerns and take appropriate action.
- Maintain a professional appearance and wear required uniform.
- Answer phone calls and direct caller to appropriate extension
- Greet and check in members and guests using point-of-sale computer system.
- Handle merchandise sale transactions
- Complete additional tasks as assigned.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Walk, stand and sit for extended periods of time outdoors in hot, humid weather under direct sunlight.
- Bending, lifting, carrying, squatting, walking, pushing and pulling equipment with or without assistance
- Maintain physical qualifications required for Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid certifications.
