Program Terms and Conditions:
The selected applicant agrees to attend all classes and labs required to successfully pass the curricula of the Basic Recruit Law Enforcement Academy and pass the FDLE state of Florida certification examination. During periods of class recess, the selected applicant agrees to perform various duties for the Brevard County Sheriff's Office (BCSO).
Note: Selected candidates must be able to pay for the Basic Law Enforcement (BLE) Academy tuition and fees via self-sponsorship or, if applicable use their GI Bill. The Brevard County Sheriff's Office shall not be responsible for any BLE costs. Once the applicant passes all portions of the BCSO background process and is approved for hire, they will be under contract with the agency for a total of three years from their hire date. Selected candidate's salary and benefits, as described in this job posting, will be provided by BCSO while attending BLE. Upon graduation from the academy and becoming a state certified officer, the selected candidate's status will be re-classified from a Deputy Sheriff Trainee to a Deputy Sheriff, and includes the appropriate salary increase.

This is a trainee-level classification in which incumbents are expected to successfully complete the Basic Law Enforcement (BLE) Academy and will ultimately receive the recommendation of the Sheriff to either be promoted to Deputy Sheriff or may be terminated from the position.
Termination Includes:
- Recruit withdraws from the academy or is terminated by academy authorities
- Recruit fails to complete the academy
- Recruit fails to obtain law enforcement officer certification from FDLE
- Recruit voluntarily resigns
- Recruit abandons his/her position before working as a certified law enforcement officer for the BCSO, or fails to fulfill their three year contract after becoming certified and re-classified as a Deputy Sheriff.

- Must be actively enrolled in a law enforcement academy and be 20 years of age by the date of graduation
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must have a valid Class E Florida Driver's License
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED
- Must have not been convicted of a felony
The Selection Process Includes:

- Background Investigation & Polygraph Examination
- Psychological assessment
- FDLE Medical exam & drug screen (to be completed after conditional offer)
During an emergency, the Sheriff will determine who is considered an emergency responder and whose work is necessary to maintain the operation of law enforcement and correctional facilities. This determination is subject to change based on staffing and the operational needs of the agency.
