We are seeking a Medical Lab Assistant-Dermatology to become a part of our team! You will perform the various tasks required for transcribing dictation codes into written form, accept responsibility as the liaison between the diagnosing pathologist, histology technologist/technician, and the providers within the BSCC practice. You will perform various tasks required for receiving, processing and preparing patient tissue specimens for microscopic examination and analysis. The ideal candidate will have a passion for helping others, strong clerical skills, and the ability to thrive in a busy and energetic setting.
Responsibilities:
- Complete transcriptions in a timely manner, reviewing grammar, punctuation and spelling prior to submission.
- Ensure accuracy of transcription and correct any errors or inaccuracies in a timely manner, regardless of volume of work
- Perform all routine and special procedures which may include but not limited to patient reports, slide distribution and stocking solutions
- Receive surgical specimens, verify patient info and document specimen’s condition
- Sort specimen according to priority and accessions as necessary
- Grosses tissue specimens
- Records number of tissue cases, blocks and slides
- Operates and maintains all histology lab equipment in a proper state of readiness and cleanliness.
- Keeps current with the changes in laboratory procedures.
- Understand details of lab requirements regarding formatting and notation.
- Communicate scientific information appropriately
- Willingness to assist other laboratory personnel when requested and when workload permits
- Performs with a minimum of errors. Works neatly and accurately, regardless of volume of work
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a transcriptionist in a health care setting
- Excellent grammar, spelling and punctuation skills
- Excellent human relations, organizational and communication skills
- Strong computer skills
- Ability to work independently and adhere to deadlines
- Ability to handle confidential information
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift 10-20 lbs. unassisted
- Ability to work a different shift when workload changes
- Willing and able to work with bio-hazardous/toxic materials following OSHA guidelines
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe PDF reader
- Finger dexterity is required to type quickly and accurately as well as handle microscope slides for slide distribution
- Must pass typing test for speed and accuracy
- Bachelor’s degree in science required
- 3 years of experience preferred
