We are currently seeking a purpose-driven candidate with an ownership mentality to fill an open position as a Process Chemist (level IV or V). This position will be located in Rolla, MO.

Summary:

From conducting routine experiments to leading process development projects, these roles involve hands-on laboratory work, data analysis, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure product quality, process efficiency, and continuous improvement across all levels of expertise.
Responsibilities:
Process Chemist IV
- Perform laboratory experiments following established protocols and procedures to support process development and optimization.
- Conduct chemical analysis and characterization of raw materials, intermediates, and final products.
- Compile and analyze experimental data, prepare technical reports, and communicate findings to cross-functional teams.
- Keep a well-documented laboratory notebook and have it co-signed within two weeks.
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving process-related issues by conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions; help create new testing processes.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, calibration records, and inventory of chemicals and supplies to ensure safe and efficient operation of the laboratory.
- Present project updates during team meetings.
- Ensure normal functioning of chemistry equipment sets, troubleshoot, and resolve issues that interfere with chemical synthesis

- Design, conduct, and execute laboratory experiments encompassing synthesis, sample preparation, and performance characterization to evaluate process parameters, identify optimization opportunities, and troubleshoot process issues.
- Analyze experimental data using statistical methods and interpret results to draw meaningful conclusions and make data-driven recommendations.
- Collaborate with process engineers and other stakeholders to scale up laboratory processes to pilot or production scale, ensuring process robustness and scalability.
- Perform method development, expansion, validation, and documentation for methods aimed at monitoring process performance and product quality.
- Author reports on results obtained from material characterization and testing.
- Participate in technology transfer activities, including the transfer of new processes from research and development to manufacturing.
- Implement efficiency or cost reduction initiatives as appropriate.
- May train new team members or technicians.
- Create new testing processes and improve upon current processes
- Provide processing assistance to sales and customer support for sample requests.
- Initiate action(s) to prevent the occurrence of non-conformities.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff, including training on laboratory techniques, data analysis methods, and best practices in process development.
- Collaborate on process development projects from concept to commercialization, including experimental design, data analysis, and process scale-up activities
- Ensure that all process chemistry facilities, workspaces, and equipment are well maintained, cleaned, and operated in accordance with industry standards and safe practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project objectives, timelines, and resource requirements, and ensure alignment with business goals and priorities.
- Represent the process chemistry function in internal and external forums, including technical meetings, project reviews, and regulatory interactions.
- Lead major tasks within process development projects as assigned.
- Imitate and develop methods and procedures for characterization of products.
- Ensure continuous improvements in products, processes, and systems.
- Responsible for design, specification, and justification of equipment.
- Lead action(s) to identify and prevent the occurrence of non-conformities.
- Respond, in collaboration with the legal department, to patent office actions, if applicable, and prepare detailed written invention disclosure documents to facilitate the preparation of patents for legal proceedings.
- Follow and implement new practices, trends, and standards in the field by reading journals, attending professional meetings and conferences, holding discussions with experts, etc.
- Create project and resource plans that ensure projects are completed on time and by priority.
- Design, test, build, plan for, and manage chemical processes that ensure consistent, high-quality production that are scalable to high-volume processes in manufacturing.
- Ensure uninterrupted operation of process chemistry processes and equipment.
Process Chemist V:
- Same duties as Process Chemist IV.
- Additional duties as Process Chemist V:
- Evaluate emerging technologies and scientific literature to identify opportunities for process innovation and improvement, and lead implementation efforts.
- Lead the development and implementation of strategic initiatives to enhance process efficiency, product quality, and sustainability, aligning with business objectives and industry trends.
- Collaborate with senior management and cross-functional stakeholders to develop and execute the process chemistry roadmap, including prioritization of projects and allocation of resources.
- Independently lead all aspects of process chemistry projects, as well as leading the transfer through the product development processes.
- Provide innovative concepts and promote new ideas in process chemistry product development.
- Supervise validation of materials scaling up from bench scale processes that transfer to higher scale intermediate production to produce consistent, high-quality materials.
- Identify and communicate gaps in the product development ecosystem to management as necessary for joint resolution or risk mitigation.
- Provide regular progress reports to leadership and personnel regarding roadblocks, resource needs, results delivery and timeliness of product development projects being executed by the team.
- Provide input, feedback, guidance, and teaching to team members and peers based on knowledge, expertise, competencies, and skills.
- Assist in design, specification, justification, and installation of new laboratory or pilot-scale equipment for intermediate processes.
Education & Credentials:
Process Chemist IV:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related discipline and 6 years of experience or
- Master’s degree in Chemistry or related discipline and 4 years of experience or
- Ph.D. in Chemistry or related discipline or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Process Chemist V:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related discipline and 8 years of experience or
- Master’s degree in Chemistry or related discipline and 6 years of experience or
- Ph.D. in Chemistry or related discipline and 2 years of experience or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
