What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Rec - afternoon counselor position at Brewster Recreation Department?
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
1)Day to day interaction and overall care for youth in the Afternoon Rec Program.
Shift will be 11am-4pm.
2)Implementation of daily activities
3)Maintain a high level of safety and structure within the program.
4)Complete incident/accident reports in the First Aid Log and immediately report such occurrences to Recreation Director.
5)Build and maintain student’s spirits and morale.
6)Report physical facility hazards in a timely manner to Summer Rec Director
7)Assist the Recreation Director in all other duties assigned.
MAJOR DUTIES:
Day to day interaction and overall care for youth in the Summer Rec Program. Implementation of daily activities for a seven-week summer program and have a general knowledge of sport and recreational equipment usage.
Skills
- Experience in childcare or early childhood education is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with special education practices to support diverse learning needs.
- Strong classroom management skills to maintain order and engagement during activities.
- Background in theater or creative arts is a plus for facilitating expressive activities.
- Ability to educate children effectively using engaging methods tailored to their developmental levels.
- Certification in first aid is preferred to ensure the safety of all participants.
- Experience in babysitting or working in daycare settings is beneficial for understanding child behavior.
