Summary: Responsible for ordering and placement of designated products to meet objectives for department sales, margins, inventory turns, COGS, and customer satisfaction. Responsible to stock department products and to provide excellent customer service to shoppers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following: Other duties may be assigned.
Customer Service –
- Assist customers in a prompt, friendly, courteous manner, referring them to others if necessary
- Help customers fill out special orders forms and help place them.
Purchasing –
- Follow best practices in ordering product
- Place orders in a timely manner, meeting purchasing deadlines
- Ensure steady supply of product is received that customers want, including special orders
- Evaluate vendors and investigate new sources of supply
- Receive orders and obtain credits not handled by Receiver, following established procedures
- Participate in setting sales and margin goals for the department
- Participate in inventory counts
- Following department guidelines maintain adequate inventory levels preventing excessive amount of OOS’s Par list are being updated on a regular basis to accommodate the season, promotions, and trends
- Never Out List are followed and updated on a seasonal basis
- Achieve targeted department level inventory turns Unnecessary backstock is kept to a minimum
Merchandising –
- Follow current Merchandising Policy
- Plan and maintain attractive, fully stocked, faced, and rotated sections. Give stocking priorities to Receiver for assignment to stockers, when not stocking the section personally
- Set prices to meet margin goals, mark down items to reduce losses
- Ensure accurate, uniform, current product and shelf signage
- Solicit suppliers for promotional support, in coordination with Merchandising Manager
- Stock in other areas of the store as needed
- Read business and trade reports to keep abreast of developments in the industry.
- Product is being rotated in and processed correctly and in a timely manner.
Department Maintenance –
- Ensure that unsellable items are returned or otherwise properly disposed of, following established procedures. Keep accurate product shrinkage records.
- Ensure that department areas are in clean, orderly condition, meeting health department standards.
- Maintain department equipment in working order. Monitor food storage temperatures and follow established procedures for handling equipment breakdowns.
- Advise Department Manager and/or Facilities, Operations or General Manager of equipment problems or needs promptly.
Other Responsibilities –
- Perform other tasks as assigned by Center Store Manager
- Attend department and storewide meetings.
Responsibilities to Safety:
- Protect the safety of self, co-worker's, and BriarPatch Co-op patrons at all times.
- Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor without delay.
- Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to supervisor.
- Follow all company and safety policies and procedures.
- Operate equipment in a safe manner that will not lead to injury of self or others.
