JOB SUMMARY:
The Mechanical Program Manager is responsible for all Mechanical work, whether direct or indirect and the execution of all mechanical-related projects. This position will oversee all phases of the Mechanical construction project and ensure successful completion within the given budget and time frame. Specific responsibilities include managing field crew, coordinating/updating schedules, inspections, quality control, job site safety, interaction with the owner’s representative & subcontractors, ensuring compliance with the contract documents, specifications, and permits, monitoring budget, tracking quantities, and generating required reporting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop the Mechanical Program's strategic plan for growth, revenue, profit, labor force, personnel training, work quality, and customer loyalty.
- Manage the business development process:
- Prepare, maintain, and execute plans established in the business strategy.
- Develop a pipeline of opportunities and achieve new business targets.
- Plan, schedule, and implement work for all Mechanical projects, specifically:
- Develop proposals, cost estimates, and bids.
- Manage the submittal and approval process; prepare change requests. Monitor/review plans, reports, permits, requests for information, and design change/variance requests.
- Procure and schedule necessary materials and resources such as equipment, team members, and subcontractors.
- Determine labor requirements.
- Select, hire, and oversee the work done by subcontractors.
- Determine the best source of construction materials.
- Oversee the delivery of materials, tools, and equipment.
- Ensure resources are used efficiently and effectively.
- Obtain and maintain necessary licenses or permits.
- Supervise the planning of design and/or mechanical work; ensure accuracy of project drawings, specifications, project schedule, environmental requirements, and quality expectations.
- Analyze project profitability, revenue, and margins.
- Prepare project budget and track time and expenses to budget.
- Serve as point of contact for clients.
- Code and determine payment of all project-related invoices and timesheets.
- Prepare periodic progress reports outlining materials used, costs, and work schedule adjustments.
- Oversee documentation and retention of information related to project start-up, commissioning, contracts, completion reports, as-built documentation, and project close-out.
- Oversee progress at work sites; may require multi-day visits and/or overnight stays.
- Monitor compliance with applicable municipal, state, and federal regulations.
- Ensure job required reporting is received and thorough to include safety reports, daily updates, photographs, timecards, and any other construction reporting.
- Ensure project milestones are completed on schedule.
- Ensure that projects are executed safely according to contract specifications, precisely:
- Actively support Brice’s Health and Safety Program.
- Stay apprised of on-site compliance and safety audits; suspend or modify work practices as necessary.
- Verify that the personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety equipment needed for the project are provided and properly used.
- Serve as a point of contact for employees to express health and safety concerns to.
- Serve as an organizational resource for project questions, best practices, and industry standards.
- Work as a “team player” with co-workers in a respectful and supportive manner.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and a safe manner.
- Seek and participate in development and training opportunities.
- Participate in periodic management and executive meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed.
SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:
This position supervises project field personnel and subcontractors.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Advanced Mechanical systems background, with a proven technical understanding of commercial Mechanical construction and demonstrated ability to read and understand Mechanical line diagrams.
- Intermediate knowledge of project management and proposal development best practices and concepts.
- Technical knowledge of various field construction concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Proven experience in identifying and managing control of potentially hazardous situations.
- Skill in organizing resources, establishing priorities, meeting deadlines, and managing time.
- Ability to prepare accurate budgets and cost estimates.
- Ability to create, read, and understand complex contract documents.
- Effective professional communication and interpersonal skills:
- Ability to build effective working relationships with customers and organizations, exceptional follow-up skills.
- Ability to do business ethically with customers, vendors, and co-workers.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to comply with and enforce standard policies and procedures.
- Ability to work productively under pressure.
- Ability to travel for work-related purposes (up to 50%).
- Ability to perform basic mathematical computations, detect unobvious facts and issues, and exercise resourcefulness in resolving problems.
- Ability to work in a Native Corporation multi-business environment.
- Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule, sometimes including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe and efficient manner.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, experience, and equivalent skills may be substituted.
- 15 years of direct experience in the mechanical contracting industry is required.
- 10 years of supervisory experience in mechanical construction is required.
- Ability to obtain/maintain a Mechanical Administrator’s License (Unlimited HVAC/Sheet Metal, Unlimited Commercial and Industrial Plumbing endorsements), Master Plumbers license, and State of Alaska Certificate of Fitness.
- Valid state driver’s license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company’s Driving Policy.
- Ability to pass a drug and background screening.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Brice Equipment has a fast-paced multi-tasking office environment requiring a high degree of efficient and effective performance. Work is often performed outside of the office at indoor and outdoor job sites. Adaptability regarding schedule and design changes and occasional overtime for immediate field support or bid processing may be necessary.
