Job Title: Wood Furniture Spray Finisher
Location: Williamsport, PA
Job Type: Full-Time (40-50 hours/week)-- Occasional weekends required as needed
Position Overview
Brick Mill Craft Furniture is seeking an experienced Wood Furniture Spray Finisher who will be responsible for applying stains, sealers, varnishes, oil finishes, and other finishes to wooden furniture components. This role requires excellent attention to detail, knowledge of finishing materials and processes, and the ability to operate various spraying equipment safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate will be quality-driven, comfortable with physical tasks, and committed to maintaining a safe and organized work environment. The ideal candidate should have 5 years of experience finishing furniture.
Key Responsibilities
- Surface Preparation
- Sand, clean, and prepare wooden surfaces to ensure a smooth finish.
- Repair minor defects, such as dents, scratches, or uneven surfaces before finishing.
- Mask or protect areas that should not be exposed to finishing materials.
- Finish Application
- Mix stains, paints, varnishes, and other finishing materials according to required specifications.
- Operate and maintain spray guns, HVLP systems, and other specialized equipment to apply finishes uniformly.
- Apply multiple layers of finish (e.g., sealer, topcoats) to achieve the desired color, texture, and gloss level.
- Quality Control
- Inspect surfaces after each coat for color consistency, smoothness, and overall appearance.
- Identify and correct any finishing flaws (e.g., runs, sags, bubbles) by sanding or retouching as needed.
- Perform final inspections to ensure finished products meet company standards and client expectations.
- Equipment Maintenance
- Clean and maintain spray booths, compressors, and other finishing equipment according to safety guidelines.
- Schedule or perform minor repairs and routine maintenance on tools and machinery.
- Safety & Compliance
- Follow all health and safety regulations (e.g., use of personal protective equipment, proper ventilation).
- Comply with environmental regulations regarding the handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of potential hazards.
- Collaboration & Documentation
- Work closely with production team members to coordinate workflow and meet project deadlines.
- Maintain accurate records of materials used, processes followed, and time spent on tasks.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and peers to address challenges or improvements.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- 5 years of experience in furniture finishing is required.
- Formal training or certification in spray finishing techniques is a plus.
- Technical Skills:
- Proven expertise with spray guns, HVLP systems, and other finishing equipment.
- Strong knowledge of different wood species and finishing products (stains, lacquers, varnishes, etc.).
- Ability to read and understand technical documents and product specifications.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for prolonged periods.
- Comfortable lifting materials and furniture parts weighing up to 100 pounds.
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Soft Skills:
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and adaptability to changing project requirements.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
