Transportation Engineering Practice Lead
Your Impact
Under the direction of the Operations Manager, you will lead the expansion and performance of the regional offices. You will be responsible for building and leading the team, ensuring effective communication, and aligning office operations with broader corporate objectives. You will help implement local strategies, programs, and initiatives, making sure they reflect the company’s policies and goals.
You will oversee business development efforts and pursue new opportunities as part of an ambitious growth plan. Your role will involve positioning and differentiating the team to win projects, increase market share, and engage with transportation clients while acting as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the delivery and oversight of these projects.
Marketing and Business Development
- Develop the civil transportation vision and support the creation of business plans to drive regional growth, leveraging knowledge of the local market and competitive landscape.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Manager to create and implement local marketing strategies, ensuring the office meets its business plan goals and objectives.
- Stay informed on strategic opportunities and ensure pursuit teams adhere to client management, pre-positioning, and pursuit strategy best practices.
- Represent the firm in client meetings, industry events, and business functions. Build relationships with local leaders, key partners, and professional organizations to support strategic teaming and partnerships.
- Coordinate periodic meetings with key client personnel, ensuring alignment with project managers and leadership.
Business Strategy and Implementation
- Support the development of action plans to align with regional business plans and foster analysis for growth in key areas or disciplines.
- Ensure office compliance with staffing expectations and take corrective actions when necessary. Address high-level operational concerns promptly and implement solutions to improve performance.
- Assess and anticipate talent needs to identify leadership gaps and design a development strategy to meet future requirements.
Finance and Operations
- Ensure the profitability of the regional office and its projects.
- Track budget and operational performance, reporting key metrics to leadership regularly.
Operational Responsibility
- Maintain chargeability expectations or take on additional responsibilities as needed in agreement with regional leadership.
- Collaborate with other office managers to promote teamwork across regions.
- Ensure effective client communication and maintain client satisfaction in coordination with other offices. Ensure smooth project production and implement Quality Assurance / Quality Control procedures.
- Oversee succession planning and support the development of future leaders within the team. Conduct performance evaluations and recommend salary increases for direct reports.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and corporate policies.
- Facilitate effective communication across the region, ensuring the efficient sharing of critical information and promoting team collaboration.

Ideal Experience
- Minimum of 15 years of diverse civil engineering experience, with expertise in transportation infrastructure.
- Proven track record of leading and delivering large-scale projects through effective team and budget management.
- Experience in planning, design, and construction services for roads, highways, and bridges.
- Strategic and growth-focused leadership experience.
- Demonstrated success in scaling teams and businesses for growth, ensuring effective governance at the project and business levels.
- Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to develop long-term partnerships with clients and stakeholders in the transportation industry.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including business development, proposal writing, client meetings, and internal team leadership.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, planning, or a related field is required.
- Professional registration (e.g., PE) is preferred.
Salary and Benefits The salary range for this position is between $190k - $220k annually, based on experience and qualifications.
