OVERVIEW

Bridge Boston Charter School is a tuition-free, K1-8 public school serving 335 students in Roxbury, Massachusetts, and the surrounding community– many of whom have experienced social, emotional, and developmental barriers to learning. Bridge Boston’s robust social-emotional program is designed with an eye to supporting students who have experienced trauma in their homes and communities.

THE POSITION

Reporting to the Assistant Principal, the building substitute instructs students and facilitates student learning in the absence of the regular teacher.

Specifically, they will be responsible for:

• A Bridge Boston Charter School School Building Substitute Teacher can expect to:
• Promote and support the school’s mission and values, reflecting a deep respect for all students, families, and staff;
• Provide classroom instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans;
• Create a classroom that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students;
• Maintain a safe and orderly environment;
• Maintain established routine of the school and classroom procedures in which assigned;
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities;
• Maintain reasonable rules of conduct which encourage self-discipline and responsibility communicates effectively with parents when needed;
• Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and times designated;
• Participate in myriad forms of professional development as scheduled for all faculty; and
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Direct experience working with children serving underserved communities in a supervisory capacity preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal, with different audiences, including students, parents/guardians, and staff.
• Value of diversity and demonstration of cultural competence and sensitivity; experience in supporting diverse needs and working with diverse populations.
• Adaptive, flexible, and resourceful problem solver; customer-service orientation.
• Detail-oriented and organized; 
• Strong team player and experience working collaboratively.
• Life-long learner; willingness to make and learn from mistakes; passion for learning new things.
• Sense of humor.
• Bilingual Spanish, Haitian-Creole, or Cape Verdean Creole highly desirable.
