Reporting to the Assistant Principal, the building substitute instructs students and facilitates student learning in the absence of the regular teacher.
Specifically, they will be responsible for:
- A Bridge Boston Charter School School Building Substitute Teacher can expect to:
- Promote and support the school’s mission and values, reflecting a deep respect for all students, families, and staff;
- Provide classroom instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans;
- Create a classroom that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students;
- Maintain a safe and orderly environment;
- Maintain established routine of the school and classroom procedures in which assigned;
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities;
- Maintain reasonable rules of conduct which encourage self-discipline and responsibility communicates effectively with parents when needed;
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and times designated;
- Participate in myriad forms of professional development as scheduled for all faculty; and
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Direct experience working with children serving underserved communities in a supervisory capacity preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal, with different audiences, including students, parents/guardians, and staff
- Value of diversity and demonstration of cultural competence and sensitivity; experience in supporting diverse needs and working with diverse populations
- Adaptive, flexible, and resourceful problem solver; customer-service orientation
- Detail-oriented and organized;
- Strong team player and experience working collaboratively
- Life-long learner; willingness to make and learn from mistakes; passion for learning new things
- Sense of humor
- Bilingual Spanish, Haitian-Creole, or Cape Verdean Creole highly desirable
