Our client is hiring a Chief Estimator to join their leadership team.
Primary Focus:
As Chief Estimator you are a Senior Leader who will lead our estimating function reporting directly to the MES President. You’ll be responsible for overseeing complex, high-value bids across multiple projects concurrently while managing a small team of Estimators. You are responsible for driving cost efficiencies, committing to only submitting proposals that reflect our commitment to technical excellence, quality, profitability and mentoring your direct reports.
This is a critical role that will have significant influence over project success, client satisfaction and bottom-line performance. You’ll be joining a well-established leadership team and be accountable for current and future team and company growth. It’s vital that the Chief Estimator is forward-thinking, decisive and readily able to communicate clearly to internal and external clients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
- Responsible for overseeing the estimating process and estimating team ensuring the department is meeting and exceeding their goals.
- Prepare estimates and bids for the construction and service business units as required.
- Delegates and assigns projects to the estimating team.
- Ensures that all bids are accurate, complete, and submitted on time. Conducts final sign offs on all estimates prior to submitting to customer.
- Hold weekly estimating meetings with the estimating team to review status of open bids and other department related items.
- Identify key tasks for bids and assigns them amongst the team. Key tasks include mandatory or voluntary pre-bid meetings, insurance reviews, bid bond requests, contract foils, bid package preparation, etc.
- Serves as sales contact for select customers and clients served by MES.
- Manage CRM software and ensure new customers are added, the bid log is updated and accurate, and bid results / feedback are properly maintained.
- Maintain CRM tracking system for key data including win ratios, performance by divisions, estimators, and geographic region.
- Obtains prices from vendors and subcontractors for materials, equipment and services.
- Coordinate estimating transfer meetings for all awarded projects with the construction/service team and assigned estimator.
- Oversees the company’s estimating proposal writing function to ensure that estimates verbiage and format are consistent company wide.
- Contacts clients, customers, and government representatives to discuss items relevant to the proposed work. Follows up with telephone calls to customers and clients to inquire about estimates that were previously sent.
- Ensure that the company subcontractor / supplier list is updated and maintained.
- Increase our bidding efficiency in both percentage of profitability and percentage of jobs won.
Qualifications:
- 10 years’ experience as an estimator, including 5 years of previous management experience within commercial and/or industrial industries
- Must be detail-oriented while also having the ability to work quickly and efficiently.
- Ability to manage and generate project estimates for projects ranging from $25,000 up to $5,000,000.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite with advanced knowledge of excel
- Knowledge of Cost Estimating Software is preferred
- Ability to read plans and other project documents
