Environmental / Analytical Chemist
Summary:
A locally-owned and operated environmental laboratory has an immediate opening for an environmental/analytical chemist with at least one year of professional, full-time, analytical chemistry experience.
Essential duties, responsibilities:
Job duties would consist of, but not limited to: sample preparation, sample analysis, sample management, data review, scientific instrumentation calibration, operation, and maintenance. The scientist would also review, evaluate, update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and update inventory supplies and materials to assure laboratory operations are properly stocked.
The successful candidate will be required to perform various environmental sample analyses, some of which include: ion chromatography (anion and cation), ICP-MS (trace metals analyses), pH, alkalinity, gravimetric, and other EPA-certified drinking water (and wastewater) parameters.
Must have aptitude in operating laboratory equipment, and a LIMS program. Other routine laboratory duties will be involved, such as: standard preparation, instrument calibration, and preventative maintenance. Scientist will work closely with other scientists and lab director. Must be able to communicate with other department experts on technical questions or issues that may arise. Must be able to successfully communicate basic, and complex, customer issues related to sample information and analytical results. Must be able to follow strict laboratory protocol, be dependable, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and work well in a small team atmosphere. Must be able to successfully communicate with scientific employees, as well as a wide range of customers. Excellent career growth opportunity within the company.
A BS in Chemistry (or closely related scientific field) is required. More than 3 years of experience in a full-time, environmental (or industrial) chemistry lab is strongly preferred. Previous experience with LC (liquid chromatography), IC (ion chromatography), auto-titration, and/or ICP-MS strongly preferred.

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
