Virginia Business is seeking an Associate Editor / Writer to work with our editorial team and assist with projects and news coverage. Organizationally, we are making a sincere effort to create an equitable, welcoming, and inclusive culture. Duties Responsibilities :

  • Work with Editor, Deputy Editor, other editorial team members and freelance contributors on producing insightful news coverage for our audiences
  • Participate in a multimedia newsroom providing essential niche content across platforms, including website, email newsletters, social media and print.
  • Write and post stories to ensure essential digital content daily
  • Regularly produce newsletters and social media posts in coordination with other editorial team members
  • Assist in the production of a daily news website and monthly print magazine
  • Write and edit content for print magazine
  • Generate story ideas for daily news, enterprise stories and monthly magazine stories

Skills Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, or relevant work experience
  • 2 years of experience writing, reporting, and editing for a newspaper or news outlet specifically
  • Knowledge of business news coverage
  • Knowledge of Virginia businesses and government preferred
  • AP Stylebook knowledge
  • Some copy editing or editing experience preferred
  • Strong computer skills and digital news management- including but not limited to : Word, Microsoft Excel, WordPress, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Reader and Acrobat, and internet research skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Remote but individuals must be located in either the Norfolk / Chesapeake or Northern Virginia regions
  • Reliable transportation required for events and meetings as needed
  • Reliable home internet connection with minimum 50mbps up / 10mbps down
