Our Investment Engineers (IEs) are a core part of our investment team, owning our automated investment systems. They build & continuously evolve our models and algorithms, enable thorough research and testing of new trading ideas, and set the vision for the technology roadmap to enable maximum productivity. Our Investment Engineers are:
- Relentlessly, obsessively- curious: At Bridgwater, we are relentlessly generating new ideas on how to beat the markets. We need individuals who are excited about tackling abstract new investment ideas and quickly translating them into quantifiable measures to test their promise.
- Analytically rigorous: As an Investment Engineer, you will be faced with challenging investment and technical problems. You will need to be both creative and analytically rigorous to turn investment theses into fully equipped trading signals.
- Able to design and build large-scale systems: We need people who are passionate about building and designing systems that are easy to understand and evolve. Our ideas are constantly changing as the world is changing; we need systems that speed us up, not slow us down.
- Deeply independent and skeptical thinker: Investment Engineers are experts in their investment domain and can hold the whole model of the investment system in their head. As an Investment Engineer, you are constantly scrutinizing our outputs and signals, evaluating the performance of our existing systems, and improving our investment logic.
What is the opportunity for new full-time hires?
- We are looking for people who learn quickly and can start owning investment systems within their first year, and eventually own larger investment systems in the next 2-4 years.
- In your first year, you will spend 3 months full time in our core investor training program and then have about half your time focused on advanced investment engineering training for another 4 months. This experience is more about just enabling you to do entry level work on your team, it gives you a window into what higher level work looks like across our firm.
- You will be mentored by Engineers who deeply understand and are invested in your work, your interests, and who will help you stretch into different areas of professional growth
- You will work directly on an investment team, ultimately reporting up to the head of that investment team who is responsible for the P&L of their investment systems.
- Minimum of 6 months of professional experience building systems, ideally related to investing
- Passion and knack for building data models and algorithmic systems that solve complex investment problems
- Deep interest in markets, finance, and investing – enjoy thinking about how you would invest your own money and want to follow and understand what is going on in the world
- Deep interest in technology – aware of the state of the art methods of doing things, constantly thinking about how to incorporate those to improve how you and others do work
- Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
- Desire to work with the best people in a highly entrepreneurial and collaborative environment
