About the Legal & Regulatory Group:

The Legal & Regulatory Group is responsible for partnering with Bridgewater businesses to protect the legal and regulatory interests of Bridgewater and its clients, manage legal risk and to ensure that employees act in accordance with the highest legal and ethical standards. Our group maintains in-house expertise in many areas, including corporate, investment management, private funds, intellectual property, employment and commercial law and compliance. The team works closely with a broad range of departments within the firm and manages active relationships with external counsel.

About the Role:

We are currently seeking an exceptional lawyer who is practical, logical, intelligent, and highly motivated to work on a wide variety of legal matters. A broad background in an asset management and investment funds practice will be critical to this role, but the right person must also have the interest in and ability to stretch across multiple disciplines, partnering with senior subject-matter experts and outside counsel on a wide variety of legal and regulatory disciplines. The environment is fast-paced and dynamic and requires juggling a large number of priorities. The right candidate will possess a high degree of integrity, be able to receive and give critical feedback, find ways to improve internal processes and procedures, and commit to the continuous development and improvement of him/herself, the department, and Bridgewater.

You will drive the following responsibilities:

  • Managing, preparing, reviewing, and negotiating documentation relating to private fund client and investment activities, including counterparty agreements, fund offering documentation, investment management agreements, side letters, and ancillary documents
  • Act as subject-matter expert regarding questions related to agreements and documentation
  • Provide legal support for regulatory compliance activities including advising business units on regulations regarding investment management, trading, marketing, conflicts of interest, and regulatory reporting
  • Assist in the research, development, and launch of new products and strategies
  • Maintain relationships with and manage outside counsel

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate and law degrees from top-tier institutions
  • 5-10 years of practicing law at a law firm with a deep concentration in asset management and private funds; experience working for a private fund manager is a plus
  • Ideally will have experience with third party distribution arrangements, private equity funds, and insurance related products.
    • Familiarity with regulations applicable to alternative investment managers and private funds
  • Ability to communicate complex legal issues for executive leadership
  • Commercial orientation and ability to provide practical counsel as a business thought partner, biased towards considered action, rather than the provision of legal advice alone
    • Passion for financial markets and asset management
    • Willingness and desire to develop knowledge in new areas of law

Physical Requirements

For most of our roles, Bridgewater offers remote work flexibility, with most employees required to work on campus as their principal work location, a minimum of two days (and in some cases three days) per week with the option to work offsite on other days.

Why Choose Bridgewater?

It takes all types to make Bridgewater great. We seek a diverse group of innovative thinkers and push them to engage in rigorous and thoughtful inquiry. We develop people through an honest examination of their abilities and performance, enabling personal growth and professional development. We strive to provide you opportunities that will challenge you and unlock your potential.

In this role, you will grow with us by:

  • Taking ownership of increasingly complex systems and processes.
  • Taking on oversight and mentorship responsibilities to grow talent as you gain experience.
  • Opportunities to grow your career across Bridgewater depending on your strengths, weaknesses, and experience.

One of our core priorities at Bridgewater is to enable our employees to build a great life and career, and we believe our benefits are an important extension of that philosophy. As such, currently Bridgewater offers a competitive suite of benefits including:

  • Health insurance with 100% premium covered and access to additional concierge medical services
