Bridging Virginia, a nonprofit community development financial institution (CDFI), is dedicated to providing accessible and affordable capital and services to small businesses in historically marginalized communities. We are excited to offer an internship opportunity for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in the areas of community development, economic empowerment, and small business support.
Position Summary:
As the Intern for Bridging Virginia & Virginia CDFI Coalition, you will assist in various projects aimed at enhancing our outreach and support for small businesses. This role offers a unique opportunity to learn about the CDFI sector, engage with local entrepreneurs, and contribute to initiatives that aim to close the capital access gap for underrepresented communities.
You will work closely with our team to support the development and implementation of strategies and programs designed to empower communities in Virginia.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in outreach efforts to connect with small business owners and entrepreneurs.
- Support the development of marketing materials and communications to promote Bridging Virginia and the Virginia CDFI Coalition.
- Participate in meetings and events to gain exposure to community development finance activities.
- Conduct research on best practices and emerging trends in community lending and economic development.
- Assist in the preparation of reports and presentations for stakeholders.
- Help coordinate workshops, training sessions, and community engagement events.
Qualifications:
- Current undergraduate or graduate student in finance, business, economics, social sciences, or a related field.
- Strong interest in community development, small business support, and economic empowerment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Familiarity with social media platforms is a plus.
- Passion for social justice and dedication to helping underserved communities.
Hours: 20 or 30 hours per week, 8-week internship
Salary: $22.50 per hour (20 hours) or $15 per hour (30 hours)
Job Location: Richmond, VA (hybrid work possible)
Start Date: June 14-August 16 (negotiable, maintaining an 8-week timeframe)
