What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Adoption Counselor position at Briggs Animal Adoption Center?
Job Summary: Place animals with potential adopters, whether onsite or off site at adoption events. Keep database current, update adoptable dog binder and be proactive in finding ways to help animals find homes. Work with a team of adoption counselors to get to know the animal population and help make good matches between our animals and potential adopters. Be a resource for potential adopters pre and post adoption.
Essential Functions:
- Maintains consistent familiarity with animals available for adoption in order to provide good matches for potential adopters
- Conducts follow-ups on adopted animals with adopter.
- Understands appropriate animal care including but not limited to the need for socialization, exercise, necessity of obedience training, housebreaking tips, separation anxiety, chewing, recommended diets, and feeding schedules, etc. and is comfortable sharing this information with adopters
- Works collaboratively with other adoption counselors to complete all necessary monthly reports.
- Maintains, updates and completes dog and cat adoption lists, personality lists and animal database.
- Maintains, updates and completes all necessary files before adoption.
- Transports and delivers animals to new adoptive homes when necessary.
- Coordinates with BAAC Staff Veterinarian concerning animal medical conditions as well as informing the veterinary office the adoption date of all animals so that the vet can perform any necessary pre-adoption check-outprocedures for the animals.
- Assists in direct rescues and transportation of animals as requested.
- Assists Animal Care Attendants and volunteers as needed in providing animal care services including but not limited to feeding animals, cleaning, exercising, socializing, providing authorized treatments and medications as directed, and bathing and grooming animals.
- Always treats animals and people with respect, contributes to effective teamwork, promotes cooperation, and fosters public relations beneficial to NHES.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $13.25 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 35 per week
