Job Summary

The Cardiac Sonographer will perform all basic functions of an echo tech, which includes recording high quality echocardiograms incorporating 2D, 3D, M-Mode, color Doppler, spectral Doppler and tissue Doppler imaging. Measurements will be made in accordance with ASE standards and protocols.

Principle Duties And Responsibilities

  • Records high quality transthoracic echocardiograms, transesophageal echocardiograms and stress echocardiograms. Utilizes agitated saline and echo contrast as needed.
  • Writes an accurate preliminary report using Epic reporting template
  • Recognizes and reports critical result findings in accordance with department policy
  • Ensures echo orders are accurate and appropriate prior to each exam
  • Practices and complies with all infection control standards
  • Perform echo exams in all settings (Outpatient, inpatient and portable echoes in patient rooms, ICU, PACU, OR, ED, Observation Unit and other locations within the hospital)
  • Able to record an uncomplicated echocardiogram accurately within 30 minutes
  • Able to enter data electronically accurately and quickly
  • Able to perform and troubleshoot stress echo exams
  • Able to perform and troubleshoot TEE exams
  • Good communication skills with physicians, nurses, fellow staff members and patients
  • Adheres to all I.C.A.R.E. Standards as set by the hospital
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director, Operations Manager or Lead Cardiac Sonographer of the department.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited cardiac sonography degree program is required
  • Required: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credentials which must be current and continuously maintained
  • New graduates must be registry eligible at time of hire and must obtain RDCS or RCS credentials within 6 months of hire date.
  • At least one year of experience performing echocardiograms in a hospital setting preferred
  • BLS certification
  • Performs an Echocardiogram as per American Society of Echocardiography standards and IAC standards.
  • Able to record an uncomplicated echocardiogram accurately within 30 minutes
  • Able to enter data electronically accurately and quickly
  • Able to perform and troubleshoot stress echo exams
  • Able to perform and troubleshoot TEE exams
  • Good communication skills with physicians, nurses, fellow staff members and patients
  • Effectively reinforces good behavior and discourages negativity
  • Adheres to all I.C.A.R.E. Standards as set by the hospital
