What are the responsibilities and job description for the Core Research Lab Tech l BWH Rheumatology position at Brigham and Women's Hospital?
Responsibilities
1. Operate a BD FACSAria Fusion Cell Sorter
- Operate the cell sorter to isolate cells from samples submitted by research scientists
- Perform routine maintenance and quality control of the cell sorter
2. Help maintain Flow Cytometry Analyzers
- Perform routine maintenance and quality control of the analysis machines
- Coordinate and schedule field service when necessary
3. Help Perform Single-Cell Assays
- Perform cell viability and cell number count
- Measure library concentration on the TapeStation
- Prepare Next-Generation Sequencing library under supervision
4. Perform duties required for daily operation of the Core
- Monitor lab reagents
- Manage scheduling and track utilization of the Core
- Interact with researchers to answer questions
5. Report on progress of work at laboratory seminars.
6. Assist in the orientation and training of new students, technicians, and fellows.
7. Maintain established department policies, procedures, and objectives, including the areas of quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
8. Perform other duties as directed.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Biology required
Experience
Prior laboratory experience, either through academic coursework, internships, or employment. 1-2 years preferred.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent required.
- Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills as required to work closely with a research team.
- Demonstrated competence with databases/spreadsheets and software packages.
- Willingness to learn other laboratory techniques.
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
- Must possess good organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate information clearly in both oral and written form, including email.
- Ability to make decisions based on logical assumptions of factual data to solve technical and logistical problems.
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures.
- Familiarity with common laboratory equipment and instruments used in research experiments.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and scientific software tools.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey experimental procedures, results, and challenges.
