What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Research Assistant RESEARCH NEUROLOGY Fanning Lab position at Brigham and Women's Hospital?

Summary Work under the general supervision of a Principal Investigator and following established policies and procedures, conducts a variety of routine experiments. Calculates, transcribes and analyzes data using basic statistics. Does this position require Patient Care? No Essential Functions -Provides assistance on clinical research studies as per study guidelines and protocols. -Recruits and evaluates potential study patients. -Per protocol instruction, conducts telephone interviews, schedules patient for study visits, and perform clinical symptom rating scales. -Interact with patients/subjects with regard to study, including patient education, procedural instruction, follow-up. -May serve as a liaison between patient and physician. -Responsible for collecting data and maintaining patient information database for study. -May be required to input data, do minimum analysis and run various reports. -Maintains patients records as part of record keeping function. -Responsible for mailing various study information or packets to study participants. -Answers phone calls and inquiries regarding study protocol. -Refers participants when appropriate to supervisor or clinical staff. -Monitors and sets up any needed equipment. -Maintains inventory and orders supplies when necessary. -All McLean team members are expected to consistently demonstrate our values of integrity, compassion, respect, diversity, teamwork, excellence and innovation in their work activities and interactions. Additional Responsibilities -Performs cell culture, primary neuron culture, iPSC culture maintenance, and in vitro assays, examine protein expression level by ELISA and western blot. -Performs genetic, biochemical and phenotype tests. -Executes general molecular biology e.g. cloning, plasmid preps, genomic DNA and RNA isolation, PCR. -Contributes to design of research protocols along with research associates; troubleshoots problems as they arise; initiates alternative protocols/approaches and modifies existing technique for better efficiency. -Maintains complete and accurate record of experimentation. Assists in the planning/development of daily and long-term research projects; assists in manuscript and meeting preparation. -Maintains resource inventories. -Performs all other duties/responsibilities as directed. -Coordinates daily schedule of experiments. Responsible for data management: collects, records, tabulates and presents data. Creates graphs of experiments, performs statistical tests, and discusses progress of work regularly with supervisor. - Works independently, under minimal supervision. -Executes protocols involving a variety of routine and non-routine experiments at a professional level. - Develops modification of existing techniques, as appropriate. -In collaboration with other members of the research team, gives input to research design. -Calculates, transcribes, and graphs data.

Education
Bachelor's Degree required, in a related research setting

Experience

-Must have experience in wet labs preferably with cell line/iPSC work.

-Experience working with tools or skills relevant to digital mental health such as app development, programming, data analytics and visualization preferred.

- Excellent interpersonal skills, professionalism, and respect for subjects' rights and needs are required for working with the study participants.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow and perform clinical research protocols.
- Knowledge of basic computer programs and basic computer skills for communication, clinical, and administrative purposes.
- Excellent organization skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.
- Careful attention to detail.

-Strong research design, execution and analytical skills.

-Ability to work effectively and productively while being involved in several experimental protocols simultaneously.

-Knowledge of various laboratory techniques including molecular cloning, immunochemical assays and western blotting, proper sample handling and universal precautions.

-Knowledge of and ability to trouble shoot techniques such as plasmid construction, mammalian cell transfection, gel electrophoresis and sterile tissue culture.
-Strong database statistical skills, written and verbal presentation skills. -Attention to detail, accurate record-keeping skills, ability to evaluate and organize data for presentation, good oral and written communication skills.
-Excellent time management/interpersonal/organizational skills.

-Ability to work productively and effectively with focus under pressure.

-Ability to complete assignments in a timely manner. Good interpersonal skills.
