Position Summary Help fulfill the university’s mission by teaching students and providing content expertise in U.S. history and secondary education teaching methods. This position is responsible for instruction and supervision of candidates enrolled in student practicum courses. Of particular interest would be applicants with a background in teaching and/or observing student teachers in History, American Government, and Social Studies in general. The successful candidate will work with related department faculty and BYU-Idaho’s Education department to teach, mentor, and evaluate student teacher candidates. Courses taught will include the department’s middle-school practicum which trains education students from other academic disciplines who wish to acquire a teaching minor in History, American Government, or related Social Studies disciplines. This position requires familiarity with and ability to use and apply the Danielson Framework for Teaching both in classroom instruction and in evaluating practicum students teaching in local public schools. The instructor will assist the department and the Student Teaching Services Office in placing student teachers in the subject area of their minor and will observe their performance during short-term practicum placements. The successful candidate will also ensure adherence to state policies and standards while upholding the university mission and vision for the teaching programs. Knowledge, Skills, and Experience An advanced degree (master’s or doctorate) in History, History Education, Social Studies Education, or related field is required.
