Position Start Date: July 1, 2025
Required Degree: Degree in Spanish translation studies or equivalent (MA required, PhD preferred).
The required degree must be completed by the start date.
Experience: Experience teaching Spanish at the university level or at least 3 years working in the language industry, preferably as a provider of translation/interpretation services (EN>>SP and/or SP>>EN) to customers in a variety of fields (or as an inhouse translator on a full time basis). Native or near-native skill in written and spoken Spanish and English is also required.
Duties/Expectations:
- Teach from one to three undergraduate Spanish courses in translation/interpretation, professional languages and/or language and culture (SPAN 360, SPAN 323A, SPAN 323B, SPAN 323C, SPAN 321, and/or SPAN 465) for the Department Spanish & Portuguese from an approved BYU or BYU Online curriculum.
- The position requires the adjunct faculty member to hold office hours for students and be available via email to communicate with students, faculty, and office staff.
- Attending department meetings is not a requirement, but on occasion, meetings with the translation faculty might be necessary.
- Participation in the annual Foreign Language Fair is required.
This position requires the successful candidate to relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of their employment.
