Job Description
Assistant Dean of Administration and Operations
The School of Medicine Assistant Dean of Administration and Operations serves as the chief operations and financial officer of the college. This role is a peer to the academic associate deans and carries with it primary responsibility of the operational, financial and administrative functions within the college.

What qualifies you for this role:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in public administration or business administration. Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Chief Financial Officer at a university with direct experience in operations of a school of medicine and medical school building construction management
Preferred
Minimum of 10 years’ experience with leadership development, strategic planning and university or school of medicine governance and operations.

Job Description
Assistant Dean of Administration and Operations
The School of Medicine Assistant Dean of Administration and Operations serves as the chief operations and financial officer of the college. This role is a peer to the academic associate deans and carries with it primary responsibility of the operational, financial and administrative functions within the college.
What You Will Be Doing In This Position
Facilities Management
- Working with university officials and college leaders, design and plan facilities to house the School of Medicine
- Analyze programs to develop project requirements as it relates to architectural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing items
- Consult with others on specific facility requirements related to the targeted location for the building
- Evaluate the appropriateness of specific project requirements, develop scope narratives and recommend the most appropriate solution for completing the work
- Work with university and college leaders to direct and guide consultants on specific project requirements, including the schedule, budget, policies and practices governing the work
- Work with university and college leaders to manage consultants and contractors during the construction phase of the project focusing on key metrics
- Advise university and college leaders of major changes in project schedules or budgets, which may affect the overall project
- Maintain compliance with design and construction standards, building and safety codes and other regulations.
- Provide programming and planning for:
- Operational analysis and functional programming
- Volume projections, room utilization/capacity analysis and key room projections
- Provide leadership in the management of human resources, ensuring efficient and effective deployment of such resource
- Provide strategic insight to the development of the organizational structure, ensuring it supports the school's strategic goals and operational efficiency.
- Work with BYU faculty development to help increase leadership development within the school of medicine.
- Work with the Dean to recruit and develop needed leadership talent within the school of medicine
- Provide the Dean and the Medical Executive Committee with information about leadership needs, resources and accomplishments involving the School of Medicine
- Connect interested faculty and staff with additional opportunities and resources for personal leadership development
- Provide a yearly assessment of leadership strengths and weaknesses within the school of medicine with a plan for continual improvement
- Oversee all human resource hiring activities
- Provide leadership in the management of financial and other resources, ensuring efficient and effective deployment of such resource
- Oversee the strategic allocation of resources to maximize their impact on the school's mission and objectives.
- Assist in the determination of needs for facilities and infrastructure and manage the related resource planning process
- Consult with and provide sound, accurate financial information and recommendations to college leaders
- Oversee the management of all budget expenditures, adjustments, and transfers providing financial and budgetary data for appropriate management decisions
- Oversee the coordination of annual budgets for use of endowment earnings; review recommendations regarding how donations and endowment earnings might be better utilized to enhance the educational experiences of students in the college
- Assist and reply, as requested, to audit questions and problems identified by university and external auditors
- Coordinate all risk management, safety, continuity planning, and related legal consultation needs of the college
- Make recommendations for annual salary reviews
