Job Description
Assistant Managing Editor, BYU Faculty Publishing Services
BYU’s Faculty Publishing Services (FPS) is helping faculty produce world-class research, and now you can be a part of it! As the assistant managing editor, you will play a key role in ensuring high-quality editing and publishing for BYU faculty. How will you do this? By assisting in guiding editorial standards, reviewing manuscripts, and supporting a smooth editorial workflow. Your work will be instrumental in developing and mentoring our professional editors and student interns, helping them grow in their careers as you assist the managing editor in daily workflow processes. Not only will you have opportunities to grow your skills as an editor, but you’ll also help promote FPS services across campus, assist in day-to-day editorial operations, and contribute to important reporting. What you’ll do in this position:
- Edit and review academic content from BYU faculty, ensuring it meets high editorial and academic standards.
- Coordinate editorial workflows with the managing editor to ensure smooth and timely progress of manuscripts through the editing process.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of style guides and editorial guidelines.
- Provide oversight and feedback to professional editors and student interns, helping them grow and improve their skills.
- Act as a secondary point of contact for clients, addressing inquiries and coordinating project needs.
- Contribute to outreach efforts to promote FPS services across the campus and engage with faculty.
- Participate in research and recommend improvements to editorial processes and workflows.
- Support day-to-day budget decisions and assist with financial tracking and reporting.
What qualifies you for this role:
Required
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
- Bachelor’s degree in editing, publishing, or related field and 1–2 years of relevant work experience OR equivalent combination of education and related work experience
Preferred
- Strong proficiency in copy editing and substantive editing
- Familiarity with Chicago and APA citation styles
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
- Ability to mentor and support a diverse team
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience assisting with training programs
- Skills in outreach and promotion

Compensation Range
Actual compensation based on education and experience
