Required Degree : A terminal degree in a relevant field (e.g., Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or similar fields).

An earned doctorate in a construction management-related field (e.g., Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or similar fields) is preferred.

The required degree must be completed by the start date.

Experience :

  • Effective communication skills.(required)
  • Successful experience teaching at the college level (preferred)
  • Familiarity with academic processes (preferred)

The Department of Civil and Construction Engineering (CCE) at Brigham Young University (https : / / cce.byu.edu / ) seeks applications from highly qualified candidates for a full-time, continuing-faculty-status (i.e., tenure track) position in construction management.

We welcome applications from candidates with terminal degrees in fields relevant to construction management, including but not limited to construction, facilities and property management, real estate, construction or civil engineering, architecture, architectural engineering, design, and related construction trades (e.g., mechanical, electrical, or plumbing). Candidates with expertise in building systems design and operations, building information modeling (BIM), virtual design and construction (VDC), building life cycle analysis (LCA), building automation, and / or construction technology are especially encouraged to apply.

The CCE department offers degrees in construction and facilities management and civil engineering, with a mission of providing a world-class education in all offered disciplines and ensuring that a BYU education is spiritually strengthening, intellectually enlarging, and character building, leading to lifelong learning and service (http : / / aims.byu.edu / ). The successful candidate must demonstrate their ability to contribute to this overall mission through high-quality teaching, mentorship, and research.

The construction management program provides curriculum and research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students with elective emphases in the following five areas : construction management, facilities management, real estate development, architecture and design, and infrastructure.

Responsibilities :

  • Teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses primarily in the area(s) of expertise, with a broad spectrum of construction management topics. Professorial faculty are expected to teach 4 course sections per year.
  • Developing a strong, externally funded research program that involves both graduate and undergraduate students, with results published in top journals.
  • Becoming a department leader in teaching pedagogy and curriculum development.
  • Fulfilling significant department service roles (e.g., student club advisor, accreditation coordinator) and other appropriate BYU service assignments.
  • The department benefits from outstanding resources, including state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories in a new engineering building, substantial annual funding for equipment, supplies, and travel, and supercomputing resources through the Office of Research Computing (https : / / rc.byu.edu / ). Additional support includes extensive software access, acclaimed international study abroad programs, university funding for mentored research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and exceptional teaching resources available through the Center for Teaching and Learning (https : / / ctl.byu.edu / ).
