Job Description
Education & Programs Manager, Museum of Peoples & Cultures
At the Museum of Peoples and Cultures, we care for the anthropological, archaeological, and ethnographic collections in university custody. The MPC is BYU's Teaching Museum, inspiring students to life-long learning and service by mentoring them in collections-focused activities that reinforce the ideals of a BYU education. As our Education & Programs Manager, you will be a vital part of managing Museum tours, events, and classroom visits and providing curriculum support to our programs. The Museum houses collections from all over the world, and our staff interact with students, various BYU audiences, and members from the surrounding community. What you'll do in this position:
- Design and carry out educational programs for use in both formal and informal curriculum. Ensure these programs are aligned with university policies and document them for necessary reporting.
- Interact with faculty, teachers, and other instructors to create learning opportunities that benefit students in the areas of gallery teaching, class visits, and writing interpretive materials.
- Train students and volunteers in their work to research, develop, promote, implement, and evaluate the Museum’s programs
- Ensure students properly coordinate and schedule docents and tours
- Provide assistance, experience, and some instruction to museum practice classes, including topics such as education, evaluation, audience advocacy, and exhibitions
- Participate in the intellectual museum community
- Work closely with the Museum Director to fulfill the mission of the Museum
What qualifies you for this role:
Required:
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
- A BA or BS in anthropology, history, humanities, experience design, museum education, or other related discipline, and two years of relevant work experience in a museum, event planning, or teaching, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent writing skills, computer skills, and attention to detail
- Interpersonal skills, including the ability to work within a team atmosphere and helping supervise student employees
- Ability to work with minors, pass a background check, and hold a valid driver’s license
- Knowledge of current museum education theories and trends
- Basic evaluation and data analysis skills
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, with occasional required evening and weekend duties
Preferred:
- MA or Certificate in Museum Studies or cognate field
- Familiarity with anthropological collections
- Experience with evaluation and audience advocacy
- Knowledge of museum educational standards, such as AAM accreditation standards and best practices
- Experience with archaeological methods and theories
- Ability to build strong relationships with faculty and students

Compensation Range
Actual compensation based on education and experience
