Job Description
Job Summary
This position will help ensure compliance with food safety and quality standards within all Dining Services food facilities. This includes following all government laws, regulations, and complying with industry GMP’s (Good Manufacturing Practices). This position will be required to develop and maintain food safety and HACCP plans as well as supporting programs to ensure a full functioning food safety program.
Essential Functions
Food Safety and Quality Assurance
- Ensure products meet company, customer, and regulatory requirements for quality and food safety
- Supervises the creation and implementations of Food Safety and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) programs along with supporting prerequisite programs
- Review all HACCP and regulatory documentation for required record review and ensure regulatory compliance
- Assist in development and delivery of quality training programs.
- Audit against internal standard operating procedures
- Work with quality technicians and production employees to ensure compliance with quality policies and procedures. Bring policies and procedures into realization
- Manage environmental monitoring, and other sampling schedules
- Assists with the food traceability and recall process for Dining Services and performs regular mock recalls to verify its effectiveness
- Work with appropriate functional groups in Dining Services to solve food safety and/or quality problems or deficiencies
- Keep all necessary documentation up to date easily accessible for auditing
- Ensures a quality control process is in place and followed in production areas
- Performs routine food safety, GMP, and quality checks throughout production facilities
- Ensures the food traceability process is followed where applicable
- Monitoring the training of Dining Services employees and student employees for safe food handling, allergen control, and GMP’s
- Ensures proper supply chain management for ingredients, packaging, and finished products
- Helps to develop and maintain a culture within the site in which food safety and quality production is top priority and a spirit of continuous improvement is fostered
- Maintains current knowledge of regulations and trends affecting food safety and recommends appropriate program and policy additions and/or changes
- Assist in investigating customer complaints and corrective actions
- Prepare for third-party Audits to ensure proper documents and records are kept
- Ensure food labeling follows FDA guidelines and assist with calculating
Education/Experience
Minimum required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Processing/Engineering, or biology or equivalent field experience
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science and at least 2 years’ experience in a Food Safety role or equivalent
Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications:
Required:
- Understanding of governmental regulations in food processing, including HACCP, Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), and SQF
- Thorough knowledge Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
- Experience creating Food Safety Plans, HACCP Plans, and prerequisite programs
- Understanding of FDA, USDA, and State guidelines for food safety and sanitation controls
- Government regulations for food processing/handling
- Servsafe Certification (can be provided upon hire)
- Experience working with government regulators
- Excellent communication skills
- Prior experience in dairy production environment
- PCQI Certification (can acquire after hire) Computer skills including Microsoft (Word and Excel) and web-based inventory management and record keeping programs

Compensation Range
Actual compensation based on education and experience
